Personally. I would've splashed the cash if I had the Gr1s/v, simply because it'll near enough be a new camera. I know it's close to what you can spend on another one, but realistically speaking, you don't know how long that'll last either.
You're bang on though, it is quick work if you're methodical, I opened mine (it's complicated as fuck though. Gears everywhere) but the part is the problem. When it goes, it needs to be completely replaced, which is pretty much the whole shutter box.
I hear Ricoh Germany still repairs the V/S models.
