Been using that fancy pants depth of field camera that someone posted earlier up there.

It's quite incredible, the only problem of that you need a still subject to get the depth map accurate. Not great for kids!

so Xbmc now runs on Amazon Fire TV. It's pretty slick, but still buggy. There's no HD DTS (limitation of Amazon Android not hardware). Finally time to retire the Raspberry Pi

I've just got some NFC stickers to play with, but the most useful thing I've done so far is link my oyster card to the city mapper app (which I could have done without buying any stickers).

What does that achieve?

When I scan the oyster card with my phone the app opens automatically, however...

...It has to be unlocked & it doesn't save that much time. It looks cool but isn't really that useful

No its just reading the tag ID - you could link it to launch the oyster app if you wanted...

Oyster cards aren't readable (to get useful info out of them) by phone. I seem to remember with Octopus (the Hong Kong equivalent of Oyster) you could check your balance using NFC on your phone which was useful.

I've heard they are readable by phones but the 1st step in learning how to clone/spoof an oyster is learning how they are read and therefore that info is kept under wraps

As long as your reading device is ISO/IEC 14443 type A compatible then you can communicate with an Oyster card- however they use encryption specific to the card, which you'd also have to crack.

The readers themselves can be purchased off-the-shelf.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for tough protective cases for a Nexus 7?

After dropping my iphone I've realised I'm probably going to need something tougher than the standard slim case if I want it to last a year of potentially rough use.

I've got a Poetic case for my N7, don't know if I'd trust it to protect it from a proper drop.

At work we give out ipads with the Griffin Survivor case these days. We've never had one broken since introducing those cases. They don't appear to do an N7 case yet though. Sorry, not much help really.
