Who's that absolute beast in the middle in den Fotos aus der DDR? Ist der Hübner?
yes, that is michael hübner
-

he broke njs stems in front of the njs approvers and was allowed to use the "bierhahn" stem. and we are talking about the beast from the east aka michael hübner
I wish there was a video of this, it'd be amazing.
aren't those 90 degree seat tube frames for sprint training or something.
I thought it was just how they fit 700c bikes for really short people, because you dont see larger frames with 90* seat tubes.

maybe if he focused more energy on pushing on the pedals instead of pulling on the bars he would have actually been fast.

Normally the smallest frame usually have a 76/77 degree seat angle, but looking at NJS Export, there's a fair amount of small frame with a near 90 degree seat angle.

It's hard to compare riders of that era with modern ones. By current standards, his 200m times look OK...for a girl. The super fast times these days tend to be set on recently built indoor tracks by riders with a busy two decades of equipment and training advances to help them, but on the other hand nobody today has the kind of pharmacological assistance which Soviet bloc athletes enjoyed in those days.

At least Hubner and Golinelli used to turn up and ride Good Friday at HH (nostalgia ain't what it used to be). Hubner was so big he affected the tide...
