Took my IWC to George Pragnell in Stratford on Avon for a service at the weekend, it's 5 years old now and as I bought it 2nd hand I thought I'd treat it to a full going over. Damn there are some seriously nice watches in that shop!
In the mean time I've bought myself a back-up/second watch as I needed one.
Went for a Steinhart Ocean Black DLC. While it's not quite up to the same standard of my Aquatimer in terms of quality, wrist presence and general awesomeness it's not bad.
I can't get on with metal bracelets, even though the stock one was fairly comfortable, so I swapped it for a cheap and cheerful black NATO strap for comfort and practicality seeing as I will be wearing this watch for the rougher tasks such as mountain biking and general outdoors activities where I don't want to risk damage to my nice watch.
Anyway it's quite nice. I like it. I wanted something a little different so went for the black DLC coated version. I know Diamond Like Carbon is a decent, hardwearing coating and it looks pretty good. The watch is solid, well made and very decent quality. The bezel clicks are ok - 120 clicks but not a completely consistent feel all the way round and it does have about a half second amount of clockwise play but I can live with it. Case is good and the sapphire crystal is quite eye-catching with the bevelled edge and domed shape. It has a bit more glare than my IWC crystal but the quality is good. The ETA 2824-2 movement seems nice, it's running about 9-10 secs fast per day at the moment, I'll see how it settles down.
