I had this beautiful Mercian delivered today! It's been a long while since I've had a project so I'm feeling very excited to get to work on it. Unfortunately it's not for me, it's for my pops but his only instruction was to build it as I would for myself.
Photos do no justice to the deep red sparkle paint. I'm pretty sure this is a 853 Pro-Lugless (2006).
I will be starting a project thread for this as I don't know exactly what to do and would like some advice from you. I'm thinking new black Campag and 3T...
What happened to the Serotta?
I'd go for Ultegra 6800
Archetype rims to CK hubs
etc etc:)

Hmm grey could work! But do I then have to buy new front and back brake calipers to match, suppose I could sell the ultegra ones.. thinking out loud!

And Toby, that 853 Mercian is a beaut! Is that 62 ctt?
-
• #92332
I think it's 58cm, was on ebay recently, would've got it if it was 62cm

fork axle to crown understanding fail
Not at all, actually, all that Caz said is
'Rear brake temporary, need to source a longer drop ultegra brake caliper.'
She didn't specify why, so how am I supposed to know if it's mudguard related or not?

Does not compute. How do you know how good they are if you don't know what they are?
Subliminally read these were converted road cranks somewhere!
Those cranks and ring are good enough for world track champions, they'll probably be ok for sumo.
Agree on the ring ver nice. But when was 6700 used by track champions?

1st piece to arrive of the puzzle..

Really like the gumwalls on it!
What brand are they? They're Michelin Dynamic Classic, 23c for this one, would like 25's or 28's but they won't fit. 10 euro's a piece but they don't ride that great though, would prefer some Conti GP's over them for sure.

Jaybey pls. You said front. Distance between brake mount and braking surface doesnt change regardless of mudguards

I had to raise the saddle a good amount on the Dolan which meant the bars had to come up with it. Silly 120mm headtube.
Had a little spin around the block and it's bloody stiff, really easy to stamp on the pedals and feel the lurch forward.

Shimano? I would have assumed that was fugly but I'll google the group, don't know what that one looks like by heart. Wheelset is exactly the type of thing I'll go for though, I guess black kit over silver is a standard. My initial reaction is also Thomson err'thing but might be wrong on British steel. Serotta sale fucked up because the dude couldn't figure out how to send it without it costing literally $1,000. Worked out for the best though, I think this suits the older gentleman more than some sick fadez.

It is the 58cm from eBay. Head tube is pretty long for a 58 I think, I haven't actually checked the measurements myself.

Dolan is mega nice, sumo!

What did it fetch, if you don't mind me asking?

You're right, it doesn't. However with my old group, I couldn't use the front or rear brakes due to the shape of the inside of the brake calliper, not because it was a normal drop brake.

The downtube cut-out on the Forza is much prettier than on DF3/4.

It's an aero thing right? seems unnecessary for clearance.

It looks a bit like the seat post is on back-to-front à la Gaston.
