As is the current fashion (think there's about 4 or 5 of these in CP right now) I've gone and got me a 1996 R400 frame.
It's from the 2.8 series and is apparently the "Criterium" version although I can't find anything about that on vintagecannondale. I think all the R bikes from a given year were essentially the same frame right?
I've not got it home as it's sitting on my work desk and won't get it back until Thursday when the strike's off.
Here it is from the sale thread:
What to do with it?
Given my love of triathlons (2 completed in the past decade alone) I've decided to turn this into a super a3ro machine on the cheap. The problem is I don't really know about fast bike parts.
Was gonna go for pursuit bars with clip on aero bits, some...fast...wheels(?)...fuck I'm already out of my depth. Gearing? Dunno. I'll leave it with DT shifters for cheapness and the fact I could more easily put drops on should the mood strike. 1996 was the first year these bikes had STIs but ain't nobody got time for that.
If I like it I might strip and polish it one day and put nice bits on.
So can you tell me what are some cheap but good wheel thingies and advise on gearing? 1x10?
