Letting the bike carry it or carrying it on your body?
Of course you'll feel sluggish, you don't instantly get used to it after leaving 10 minutes from your home.
Remember how unfit you were? and you can do 10 miles without breaking a sweat nowadays, same logic with touring, just get used to it and the bike start to feel normal.
I know this, i ridden with trailors, loaded baskets n' stuff before, its a hole different style of riding, i'm used to the quick surge of power from a track bike.
