Quick question... How do you calculate target average power for a 25mileTT based on a 10mileTT?
I ask because I've only been using power for a few months and since coming back from the US my 20min peak power has seen a huge jump. To date I've still been pacing off feel but tomorrow is supposed to be my first race looking at my power meter and my coach has gone mysteriously AWOL without giving me any guidance as to what numbers I should be aiming for.
Is the Critical Power Curve on Golden Cheetah a good predictor? My 20min peak power from Wednesday's TT was 286W and so my predicted c.60min peak power should be around 284W?
284W sounds pretty uncomfortable... Maybe I'd be better off aiming for 275 until the turn an then seeing if I can push on in the second half?

Maybe so, but I am a puny girl who has no confidence in herself on the bike whatsoever. So I shall take my 28:38 & be happy with it!

You should be, loads of people have failed to get under 30 minutes first time out, so you're already ahead :-)

Good time! better than my first one chasing tester on his slacker bike

Nice work, a great first effort.

no pitt stop?
I punctured in an Open last year, with only a tube and a mini Lezyne.. still finished under half an hour :) Definitely some kind of PB

Just home from my first 10 mile TT. My aim was to get under that half hour mark, a real challenge for me as I'm on my normal road bike & don't possess any of the fancy technology or streamlined things that everyone else has. I even forgot to take off my saddlebag, but its a step up from having mudguards on I suppose.
It was windy, undulating & riding with us were the likes of Dame Sarah Storey & Katie Archibald, definitely no fastest times for us mere mortals. Back at HQ after tea & cake I went to see my time & was so shocked to see I had done it in 28:38. I never dreamed of being so quick! Unfortunately this has now set my benchmark time which I will somehow need to improve upon...
You are quick, Betty, you've shown that many times. Stop sandbagging. :)

Remember, you now have to beat yourself/your time. :)

Good start, but the commonly accepted best ever 10 miles without "fancy technology or streamlined things" is Matt Illingworth's 18:34 in 1992 :-)
He now lives in Oz and does triathlon. #howthemightyhavefallen

Anyone else get sort of blocked sinuses after training or racing? Or is that just me?

I had full on sinusitis around the period of that Sahara sand storm, felt like I had been punched in the face and custard on tap. It only cleared up a week ago. The other half got me a nose spray called otrivine (sp?) which helped alot if I took it before I went on the bike.

Be careful using this too much. Once a week really if prolonged. It's a bandaid for a bleeding wound. Only masks the cut, doesn't help it heal.

Nah, it's not likely allergies. I don't suffer all the time or even on shorter rides in the same places. Only when rides are getting on for 8 hours. The nose also works totally fine when on the bike, it's just afterwards or in the evening - same as having a cold but not a cold.

What clinchers would people recommend? I was going to just get a set of gp4000s but i was wondering if i could possibly get away with something a bit more 'racey'? Baring in mind i ride out to races

What's your budget?
I used to race on Michelin Pro 3 or Michelin Pro 4 but use Tubs these days.
Ultremos always seem popular. -

Vittoria Open Corsa CX 20c for the front (assuming Hed3), 23c rear. Faster than a GP4000s and with a bit more puncture resistance than the real minimalist clinchers. Or Conti Supersonic front and use a different front wheel to ride there. With latex tubes, obvs.

+1 for corsa CX. My good weather race/ride tyre of choice.

I did think open corsas i know Kerob loves up his and hasn't had much issue with that. The thought of carrying a wheel has crossed my mind cheers

I made a small pair of them crudely just to pick up some wheels from a mate :)
