I had a very similar situation in October. Took it to a local framebuilder in Camberwell for a repair quote (which came in as expectedly uneconomical) then later to my LBS for a 'second-hand value' quote, which the solicitor told me is all they're legally obliged to pay.
Have yet to see how much I get for it. Might make a difference that they don't make my old bike any more.
