  • Cannondale calls it size 63, 60cm top tube. And yes, I'm almost 6'5"...

Out of curiosity, does anyone ride a size 60cm (59 TT) CAAD or SuperSix? If so, how tall are you? I'm sure it's the correct size for me, but just wanted to ask. Will be trying it with a 120mm 6deg stem and 44cm FSA Energy Traditional bars (riding Cinelli Criteriums at the mo and think I prefer the classic deeper drop).

  • I need to do her up soon. Been sitting in the garage for almost 2 years now!

  • very nice

  • This is my 89 criterium, not sure what model.

  • Anyone know much about CAAD Xs?
    How many models were there?
Which CAAD series are they based on?
    What fork do they use?
    Are they shit?

  • ^^ s'nice!

^ I raced a 2011 105 CAADX for a bit. Nothing wrong with it. Quite relaxed, easy to ride, light...probably a better bike that I was racer. For 2011-12 there were a couple of models with different levels of componentry up to the Ultegra version. They all had the same frame and ultracross 1.1/8 Alu / Carbon fork. They didn't share much - other than BB30 - with the CAAD10 frame although the 'X' I guess is a play on CX and 10.

For 13/14 they are mostly disc based except the Sora version and visually share some of the CAAD10's features - straight seat stays, flat (ish) top tube etc. Fork is still alu / carbon 1.1/8 though which will do a bit to keep the front end from being too stiff

Are they shit? No. Not the raciest frames around but unless you are looking to win regionals / nationals I doubt they'd be holding you back

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/38393968@N05/13991249803/ Heres my Six13 built up and after only one 75 mile ride someone wants the frame...so its all coming off again!

  • Keep the frame, you crazy fool!*

    • It looks in good shape. What's the story?
  • After buying i decided i didnt like the 'worming' but no one would buy it (on another forum!) Then thought, heck, got all this gear and nothing to put iton and ill prob be waiting for ages for the right thing to come along, so stuck the SRAM red and Amercian classics on thiking this would be my (half) carbon bike. Low and behold and out of blue got a pm asking if frame still up for grabs. Have my eye on a Ritte so thought what the hell. But youre right, it does look good all done up. Now what to do with the 11/8th straight fork? hmm

  • Ah, yea, worming. It looked OK, but I downloaded the full size pic, and yeah, there's quite a bit. Booger.

  • Please, what it mean 'worming' thank you please?

  • Clearcoat 'dales sometimes get unsightly oxidisation under the clearcoat. This was particularly bad on the Six13 and SystemSix frames where the carbon met the aluminium, where you'd get galvanic corrosion, too, to the point where 'dale were doing frame amnesty.

Generally if it's just on the alu then it's not a big deal, but if it's around the carbon / alu then you might start asking questions about the integrity of the frame.

  • Ah I see. I was looking for signs of something like woodworm.

  • It looks like white strands under the clearcoat, kinda like worms...sometimes like spiders. Go figure.

  • It's mostly around the rear brake housing, a bit around the bottom bracket and other alu areas but the carbon top tube and down tube seem unaffected. Still looks good though

Is this real? It's certainly never 27 inches(!)

I can't find it in any of the old catalogues online and the year given (87) doesn't sit right as they still had cantilever stays, right? Plus what's that pokey-outy brake bridge about?

  • ^thats a '87 ST400, the ST800 had the cantilever stays, the "pokey-outy bit" is for the rear rack, there's a brake bridge about an inch down from it, 100% real

  • Here's mine, still got bar tape to add.

  • Some are gonna hate the saddle, but that's straight off to porn for me.

Good sleuthin'! I was looking at the road frames only - never thought to look at the tourers.

I've got my eye on the frame for a beater build.

  • I think 'Dales are worth good parts. Not everybody agrees.

  • It's a bit of curious thing to do. I'd try to go period for something of that age. Looks nice though.

Having said that I put some nice XT bits on my 2003 Optimo F1000sl. I did keep the period brakes (martas!) & wheels.

  • Cannondale experts ( or Howard ): what do you think is a fair price to ask for a 2002 CAAD4 frame? The paint is still in great condition, barring a couple of bits of cable rub on the headtube, which I didn't catch in time.

I haven't ridden it for a couple of years and with the recent arrival of a CX frame, it seems unlikely that I ever will :-/

  • i am not a specialist but if it is good condition one with time carbon forks you can easily ask for £160- £200
