Without being exposed to them in real life they simply seemed to be more pricey bike jewellery bought due to the price and exclusivity.
Coffee stop bling. Everyone says that their engineering is without parallel- so it just washes over you as standard marketing drivel.

Rather than 'bling', I've seen each of them as pretty much 'the all-round best' ever since they came to market. CK headsets were a must-have on most nice MTB builds in the '90s, and even then the absolute quality of them overshadowed their aesthetics - their rep has stayed rock-solid ever since, imo.
No marketing needed really, just talk to any shop mechanic that works with the stuff - it's fit-and-forget, unless you're a weight-weenie.
