Opencyclemap is surprisingly up to date.
You could give this a try, coming from Homerton Road. It hugs the river for a bit, going under the cycle track bridges, then loop back to the Velodrome.
It's not too difficult to access - next to a big wooden farm gate directly opposite the junction of Homerton Road. I don't think it's been open long.
Just went down there now and those other access points to the North you mentioned on the other side of the Lea are still shut (16th April)
