That's me- in the Rift valley, after one of several runs. It was magic.
Also ran up that mountain in the distance, and round the amazing crater, and scree run back down. (Longonot)
I thought the entire point was stopping people 'jogging', and embracing the more simpler form of running, which harks back to being childish and enjoying it.fair point. That;s what is so good about books - different interpretations.
Holiday of a lifetime stuff. Very jealous.

I lost my phone last week, with all my lovely running photos from Ethiopia and Somalia, which weren't backed up anywhere. Howl!

I think I have a problem. I'm considering applying for a place in the Great North Run. This running bug is hard to shake.

BGR, funnily enough, is not a day trip. You need to spend a lot of weekends recceing beforehand to learn the route - it probably takes a commitment of about a year, esp if you're London based.
You also need a strong support crew, with runners who will witness you on each peak. A friend did a solid finish with hours to spare, but it wasn't recognised as one witness broke and couldn't make it to the last 2 peaks on his leg.
All true^Don't know how a runner of Jurek's quality only just managed to break 24hrs.
because he was taking pics and tweeting some of the way round?

There are much cheaper half marathons out there! Atmosphere at GNR is good though.

While I'm on the weird things in running is how / why Run Dem Crew, a friendly and welcoming club operates a waiting list system to get in? I'm not sure many other running clubs do. That is aside from the corporate sponsorship so Nike can pat themselves on the back.
nike provide the premises where it meets and probably subsidises the shirts when they're printed but asides from the owner giving nike some love on social media it's not the nike sales pitch you think it is.
and the wait list is because they're currently getting 220 people turn up to the tuesday run and I can tell you first hand there's no more room at the inn. when I registered 250 new people turned up that evening to do the same, in addition to the existing members who had re-registered in advance.
it's easy to be cynical about these things and I'm usually the first person to do so but it is exactly what it says on the tin. you only have to go there and see some of the people who are running solely because that crew exists and you can see it can only be a good thing.

A bit late, but congrats to all the double hard bastards that did the marathon. Those medals were earned, but you're all completely mental.

Does anyone have or is able to find me a working discount code for sports shoes.com?
My googling is failing.

More importantly, did my favourite run this morning, took a bit of self bullying to get out of the door, but did it 12 minutes faster than last time!
31.5k, 1500m of climbing in 3.38.

Felt shocking at about 20km but a burp that turned into a projectile vomit and a couple of is of taking it easy and I was ok again.
Unfortunately my shoes have fallen apart so I've ordered some innov8s which will hopefully arrive in time for another attempt on Saturday!
I'm as strong and light as I'm probably ever going to be and I still can't run up some of the hills, there were points today when I was scrambling on my hands and feet!

I ran to work today, first day back so full change of clothes & trainers plus supplies, diary & notebook = 8kg carry. Slightly slower than usual, sped up for a bit whilst chatting to tri club-mate on his bike (ruined his strava time I bet).

It's a cracking run, brutally hard, but lovely, something about a sunny day in Cornwall meant that everyone I saw on the way (once away from tintagel) was extremely cheerful which is lovely!

Urgh, played 5-a-side last night, and my stamina/ability to sprint is shot (which is important as I have no skill to speak of!). Need to mix up my running a bit, rather than just doing long steady pace I think

Just did a gentle first run since December. 4.7 miles (stopped short of the planned 5 miles as I bumped into a friend) in 42 minutes. Legs feel fine now so hopefully the first of many...

this rant isn't really directed at the video above but the whole purist running thing actually kind of grates on me lately. I'm the one running what the fuck business is it of anyone else's if I want to use technology available to me if it means I find more motivation from it. of course you don't need it but that doesn't make it bad. ok some people dont seem to garner any joy from it's use and might be happier to just go and run but that's not to say it's right for everyone.
in a sport that's already pretty smug, it's pretty fucking smug to stand there and tell someone else that they're enjoying something wrong.
funnily enough I don't see people running in hobnail boots very often but I definitely read in feet in the clouds that all runners used to run in their work boots. if you don't run in the most uncomfortable shoes you can find then you can't be a real runner, because that's what they used to do before technology changed. and if you're not wearing roughspun cotton to run in then woe fucking betide you see me on the trails because if your nipples aren't torn to shreds and your inner thighs weeping with blood from chaffing then you my friend are getting called out.
sorry I'm getting wound up, I need to go for a run but my garmin needs charging.

Anyone who needs technology to make their running pleasurable is a dick.
(Not that I care, just encouraging more entertaining ranting)
Something popped in my back on Thurs, totally fucking up my plans for proper big miles this weekend. Very pissed off.

Getting back from a run and poring over the numbers is fun for me. And I enjoy knowing how far I've run today/this week/this month/this year. Whatever.

I've just kicked off Operation Make Running More Fun. It doesn't involve any technology but it does involve a labradoodle.
