  • So Mr.BigXTop has been making some amazing stuff for a while now, and many of our bikes have become super practical as a result.
Its now time to put that practicality to the test...
The route will be edited to include more trails, but will probably be untested- as I don't have the time before the ride, but if anyone has any suggestions its up for change.
    Current route:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4449221

All are welcome- if you have BigXTop stuff even better. Pace will be relaxed, but you're expected to have all the practical stuff you could possibly need.

    Start at 0800 from Kingston.

  • I thought J was in Bmouth not Pmouth?

  • Oops.
Well I'll edit the route accordingly.

  • I am in Bournemouth, my studio is at BH7 6HJ!

I'm chuffed that this happening, You're all too kind. I'll make sure there's something at my end for all that make it.

Depending on how you all get on with the route, i'll definitely have to come back up on the route at a later date, maybe when my SS tourermobile is ready and I've got a set of panniers to show off.

  • Might be worth getting the train out to basingstoke from waterloo and cycling from there round the edge of south downs then through new forest

the train back from bmouth is pricey too so you might wanna book in advance!

  • Assumed List:
    1.Eyebrows

    1. Spotter
    2. Apollo
    3. JB
    4. Scoble
    5. Rogan
Its not a bad idea that...
      Thoughts anyone?
  • I'll probably be riding on to Devon the day after- you're all free to join me, but I suspect you all have work and jobs and stuff.
We could move it to the 24th to allow that better for you/ return arrangements to be cheaper/ less crowded?

  • i am absolutely 100% a maybe. its in between 2 of my exams, but its a pretty big gap, and i do have to come down to london for house hunting so maybe I can tie it all in together

  • Its day 4 of my holidays. I will be desperate to get out riding.

  • Yeah- I can see the 24th making much more sense...

  • 24th May 21:12 train from Bournemouth to Waterloo is only £11.

  • 24th it is then!
I didn't really think it through till after I'd pressed post- so my apologies.
Have asked the boss's for a title swap.

  • might book a train ticket soon actually - before the price quadruples.

  • In for sure.

  • hope you guys got room for a long term forum lurker and it will be my first forum ride.
I would definatly be up for this ride.

  • All are welcome. Just to confirm- its the 24th May.

  • Should be good for me!

  • Provisional yes, although bedwetting remains a firm option.

  • I would love to join and meet the man who's made all my bags and accessories but, no sniggering, I've got tickets to the Chelsea Flower for the Saturday. Gutted.

  • Looking at doing this but will confirm nearer time as work dependant
Also will the start be from Kingston Railway Station ??

  • Somewhere like that. I'll be riding out from Putney.

  • I don't have a practical bike but if I may, I will make a small route suggestion which you might consider since you've said it's not set in stone.

After Haslemere, if you head Eastwards towards Selborne, and then South towards Froxfield (i.e. routing north of the A3 rather than south as you have it now) there is an absolutely fantastic descent into Petersfield from Froxfield. As far as I can tell that road is unnamed but you can see it quite clearly as it winds it's way through Ashford Hangers Reserve on googlemaps.

It might not be convenient but it would certainly be fun. Selborne and Froxfield are also very pretty. I was on my touring bike there last year and it was lovely.

  • Excellent suggestion, I will have a quick look later, and alter the route.
Even without a 'practical' bike, it would be great to have you along.
The name is more tongue in cheek than anything else.

  • This ride looks fun. Just done a min tour with brother over the paris roubaix cobbles so I think it be ok in the practicality staes. It is single speed though. How hilly is this route? Will I suffer? It is 190km so quite long. Also I'm not sure about the date. Hmmm lots of dithering going on here, but the idea looks fun.

Oh and I have a front rack with my own custom made bag so would totally fit in. The bag is ridiculously huge so would be total overkill unless I was carrying everyone else's stuff.
