Update.
The police are are still investigating the case. I managed to discover the identity of the person selling the bike on ebay. This was through buying the bike from my friends account and then requesting the sellers details when the bidding was complete. Teccy friend! having got the name and phone number of the original seller I found his linked in with all his work address and previous details. But due to lack of response from ebay and paypal the police have been unable to obtain an address. The guy was not the original man who stole the bike but a book that was marked as sold on his ebay was in the bag the original thief left with me. You'd think this would be a straightforward enough case with this link but the police have been hopeless. I called the guy up and he got really freaked out and said he'd return the bike only a call a few hours later saying he had no knowledge of a bike at all and his ebay must have been hacked into.
