Electric fat bikes doe >>>>>>
Do androids fawn over images of electric fat bikes?
-
• #6029
Is it electric?
Yup. Googled the brand - only make electric fat bikes. You can see the huge hub on the back.

15kg is amazingly light considering budget hybrid are usually around 13kg.

• #6031
It certainly is. My cargo bike must weigh 40kg

Don't know if this is the best place to ask but have Mavic ever made a ceramic touring rim, or anyone else for that matter?
-
• #6033
That's a great bike. What are the shifters?
-
• #6034
Looks like retroshift
-

Have been trying to figure out a way to DIY retroshifts. Think I can get 1x9 done for 30 quid, using tektro RL520s and a modified thumbie . Hopefully it will look better than this

Nice one. Excellent choice of colours, any pics with it mounted on the Surly?
-
• #6038
Ok. Just seen it in current projects.

That bag looks great. I've got one of his rucksacks, it's so well made.

Rigida Grizzly CSS:

I have a feeling there used to be a Mavic one, but I doubt you'll find them and I can't imagine they'll be any better than the Rigiga.

Cheers. These could work. The CSS coating sounds good. My only worry is the quality of the rim its self. They're only £18 without the coating and £70 with!!!

They are good. The ceramic Mavics chip, but these go on forever.

I had the 26" one, tough as nail and will last you a lots longer than you think.

My understanding is that the CSS isn't a coating but actually part of the material the rim is made from.
I've seen a set that have - quite literally - been around the world and you would think they were a few weeks old.

Velodrama seem to be ignoring my emails about the soma rack I've ordered from them. I am not sure if they're still in business but the still took the money. I would avoid using them until this is resolved. Annoying because I can't find the soma porteur on any other uk sites
I got my money back from velodrama but I am still rackless. Does any one know of any other UK sites/shops that stock the soma front porteur (pref the steel version). Alternatively can the velo orange porteur rack be mounted to the QR axle? my bike has one set of eyelets on the forks but I am using them for mudguards.

use the fork eyelets for the rack then p clips/washer things for the mudguards, the forces on the rack will be greater so need a more secure fitting.
and buy a gamoh, much cheaper and basically the same rack
Fitzrovia Cycles can source Gamoh racks, and they also sell these nifty washer type things as in the image below, which I think are neater than P-Clips and don't fuck up your paintjob like p-clips do. So I'd use a set of them to mount the mudguard, and mount the rack to the fork eyelets

The Gamoh is really flexy and no way comparable to the Soma/VO.
-
• #6048
nah...having actually used a Gamoh in real life for the last year or so, I can safely say it's more than adequate, not really flexy at all. The VO is probably better but there's no way it's twice as good.

Would bloody hope so, I've just seen how much they weigh!!! Now torn between these and Archytypes. Not really going to be that hard on them (for a commuter, not touring) but I hate worn looking braking surfaces!!! Aaargh!
Cheers for the info though guys! Also does anyone know if they're welded or pinned and what they're actually made of? Or just where I can get this info.

Archetype are babies' knicker in comparison.
The mudguard was shortened and the mudflap moved. It was born with two sets of stays like the rear and like the orange fat bike.
Perhaps it broke and the owner moved the flap instead of buying a new mudguard.
