If you know for sure you aren't hurt and the driver is happy to settle privately then go for it. I'd push for some kind of inconvenience damper though, i.e. they pay for transport to and from everything until your ride is sorted.
Knowing you aren't hurt is the key.
Still report it to the police for an incident number and stats.
