    I'm possibly taking a slow ride out to High Beech this Sunday or a slow ride into LMNH from the very East.

    If anyone wants to join me and has a preference for either direction please let me know.

  • bumpity bumpz

    I'm not so overweight and so unfit but am hoping to do a number of shortish rides (8-15 miles and building upwards) from mid April onwards.

    I'm still pretty slow though. Anyone interested in joining me? Starting point East.

  • Could be. Weekends or weekdays?

  • Could be either, but definitely weekends starting from Easter.

  • Only weekends work for me, and I may have a girly tagalong who would like some practice. Where is East when it's at home so I have an idea of the distance she'd need to cover to get there?

  • I'm way out East but would start Hackney area somewhere. People really low on confidence are welcome, no one will be left behind.

  • Excellent. Early doors or a bit later? I'd need to traverse the whole of central london which is a nightmare later in the day so early would work best for us but can suck it up if not, I suppose.

  • Probably earlier around 10 or 11 am.

  • Excellent, keep me posted!

  • Me too, I'd be up for weekend rides starting East or South East!

  • I know it is the marathon on Sunday but does anyone fancy doing a few laps of Victoria Park and then up to LMNH (Old Street, not Mare Street)?
    Meeting around 11am.

  • Gonna watch the p-r?

  • Can do. But there is no obligation for anyone to stay at LMNH once we get there.

  • Looks like there might be a couple of us.

    Meeting 11am by the Royal Inn on the Park this Sunday 13th.

    If you are planning to come please let me know, otherwise we won't hang around.

  • Weather permitting, I will be out again this Sunday 27th. PM or post if you want to join me.

  • In. Where are we going, and what's the start time?

  • Might be up for this depending on start time and route etc, also GF may tag along if fairly quiet roads are involved

  • We plan to go from Victoria Park to Chingford using the towpath where possible. A lunch stop might be on the way or at the final destination. If you make it to Chingford you should be able to get the train back.

    I'm not in the greatest shape and I know the +1 is a nervous cyclist, so this should be a ride not a race, and you can abort anywhere along the route if you feel you've had enough.

    Sunday April 27th (Weather permitting)

    Meet 11 AM Royal Inn on the Park

    List

    1. Shoosh
    2. Bothwell
    3. +1
  • Cheers I'll see what she thinks and let you know.

  • We plan to go from Victoria Park to Chingford using the towpath where possible.
    Unless any of the Lea Valley towpath is closed at the moment, you'll able to take the canal path most of the way. The only down side is having to go uphill from there to Chingford at the end of your journey.

    These guys will know the current state of the canal path.

  • The canal is fine at the moment. Went to Waltham Abbey on Monday.

  • Stuff to note:

    We'll be using the Lea Valley Walk which is about 10 miles from Victoria Park to Chingford. If you're thirsty for more when we get to Chingford then we'll be conveniently placed in Epping Forest for extramacurricurrial exploration;

    Trains back to central london from Chingford or Ponder's End (and similar stations nearby) cost £8, or £24 for four people using groupsave;

    I've ridden on towpaths on 23mm tyres and found it fine, but depending on your bike, you might be more comfortable on fatter ones. At least some of the towpath will be tarmac and it should all be in at least ok condition anyway so there's no need to go overboard with tyre width;

    Canalside pub lunch option would be nice (I have no suggestions for this as yet)

  • extracurricural

    'extracurricular'

  • Try the Princess of Wales on the river once you get to Hackney. Always looks nice.

  • No worries have ridden alongside the Canal and River Lea, both our bikes are up to it will probably head out and see how it goes for distance as will need to turn back to collect the car.

    Think I'm right that the Royal Inn on the Park is opposite Bagel on the Park ?
