I was chatting to him about using TripHammer liquids and he was of the opinion that a slightly gloopier liquid would be no problem and may suit there coil/wick system better

It'll be less likely to leak with a higher VG juice, but it will wick slower so you might have to use a slightly looser piece of cotton. Getting the wick density right is key to most of this stuff. Building a good coil comes a close second in my opinion.
