I agree that it isn't rocket science for most normal people without injury, but that doesn't mean just having a punt at it will pay dividends.
Even a basic fit from a decent bike shop for ~£100 will give you a better position, much more quickly, and identify any problems that you haven't noticed much better than months and months of fiddling with positions and saddles and stuff.
I'm a loyal Scherrit-visiter, I'm going back soon and very excited about it, but I would recommend a bike fit for anyone.
This may have something to do with the fact that I don't trust my own appraisal in things, especially something as empirically measurable as cycling.
