• taco SMELL more like.

    yeah?

    yeah?

  • Dick driver at Ealing Common last night stops at ped crossing and then takes off whilst it's still red almost mowing down a small girl/woman/female. Got plates but forgot them. Balls.

  • ^^Plates of tacos?

  • ^^ I don't get the comments: Many are cheering the swiftness of justice but what kind of person drives straight into another human being like that? Unless driver has a history of driving into things I'd take that as premeditated and give a 2yr without blinking and force a retest.

I wonder what the view would have been if the dash cam showed a child crossing and getting hit in the same fashion?

  • Just ordered the Bar Fly Go-Pro mount. Camering up.

  • My first thought was that's not nearly enough punishment for that offence, but DONT READ THE COMMENTS points out it's pretty much impossible to prove something is deliberate (although she can hardly claim not to have seen him), and hence it's "just" bad driving not malicious.

  • Incredibly annoying one today - went to test ride a new bike over in Bayswater. Riding slowly around a little square, the driver of the minivan in front of me stops and then immediately starts reversing into a parking space - and my front wheel. I start shouting and trying to get out of the way, but he doesn't stop backing into me until I'm close enough to smack the back windscreen.

I go round to the driver's side and ask what the hell he's playing at, he starts telling me that he had looked in his mirrors, and I'd come out of nowhere. I realise he's got no sodding rearview mirror, and even less idea of why I'm yelling at him. Despite trying to tell him he'd just driven his car into me, he's getting more and more irate. Passing bystander starts yelling at him as well, shouting that he's a bloody idiot.

No damage to me or the bike (thankfully, as I hadn't paid for it), but it was genuinely worrying that he had no idea why this random female cyclist had turned up shouting at him. I suspect it's not the first time he's obliviously driven into things/people.

  • Similar one happened to me. Car just kept backing up and backing up. When I asked what they were doing I got a response from behind me "they're being a fcking idiot, that's what." Passer by chipping in. It's better when you know you're not on your own. Don't start anything but do think about stopping.

  • just kept backing up and backing up.

  • Called a cabbie a C*nt for a close pass on Chelsea Bridge this morning, Rather than chasing me along embankment to ask me to repeat what I called you and why please spend that spare time in your lonely cab thinking about the traffic around you and maybe give bikes a bit more room.

Next time I'll get your details and report you

  • Reported a crazy guy in a company van this morning at around half 7 for tailgating me and driving past me at speed at a pinch point between Holborn and Russell Square. Basically drove within a few inches of my wheel (his front bumper was actually next to my wheel at points). Terrifying.

Got a pretty swift response from road safe saying they'd sent a letter to him about improving his driving.

  • Anecdotal evidence? They told me no essentially "no evidence, no letter."

  • Have you gone to the company directly?

  • I would do, but alas I have a shocking memory and could only muster the numberplate. Should have stopped, I know. But there you are. I know it was digitalphotographer.co.uk or something vaguely like that. Have tried variations on that website name but to no avail.

I'll recognise it should I encounter it again. Quite a distinctive van and colour scheme

  • I pulled up along side a bloke in a van this morning. Took a deep breathe and calmy smiled and asked very politely if wouldn't mind giving me a bit more room next time.

His response was that I should 'get over a bit more, mate'. I continued to smaile and informed him I was in the gutter, a foot from the curb and that really you should give me a cars width, but no biggie. He then said that if he had have moved over more, he would have been on the other side of the road and in danger!

Well fuck me. Unfortunately I lost my cool at this point. A lot of swearing follwed. He got out his van, I put down my bike, we squared up a bit, etc. He quoted 'road tax' (WAC) I quoted some highway code (WAC). Etc, etc.

No one really gained from theis exchange. He wasn't listening to me. I wasn't to him. Just another silly close pass that could have knocked me off.

  • I'd suggest you ride further out, it would not give him the opportunity to try and squeeze past. When it is safe to do so the driver can then chose to overtake in a sensible fashion, or if the road widens you can move over a bit to allow them to go past.

Drivers tend to give cyclists the clearance the cyclist gives themselves. So if you are a foot away from the kerb they are likely to give drive past about a foot away.

  • Yep completely agree. I'm defo guilty of that. Duly noted.

  • Stopped at a pedestrian crossing this morning as a ped was beginning to cross the road. Did the slowing down/stopping signal (hand down, palm back) whilst shoulder checking to ensure I wasn't about to die.

Couple of seconds after I'd come to a halt, some cheesedick in a van came past me, did a little swerve to fit between me and the pedestrian who was almost in the middle of the road by this point. Great start to the commute.

  • Repped for cheesedick.

  • Hi Morgan Sindall,

A bit of feedback. One of your drivers in London today around 14:30 thought it necessary to pull out of a junction without giving way to on coming traffic (me). Not only this, but he decided to shout at me - something along the lines of ‘do you want the whole road’ - as well. I think he might have been drunk.

Either way, he wasn’t representing your company in the best light. Can you have a word?

I’ve attached a screenshot with the van number and your logo showing. And the driver gesticulating towards me.

If you want, you can have the video, too. Let me know.

    Thanks,

    Howard
