Looking for a geared workhorse/trainer with 105 and have been recommended the Roadlite AL 6.0. Great price but couldn't help noticing the cassette ratio of 11-32 which seems quite wide. I am intending to use this on the Derbyshire hills but I'm more of an old school out of the saddle grinder rather than the modern spinny way of things. Would it leave too many gaps between gears? There doesn't seem to be an option to change either unless you pick the triple package option.
A 32 sprocket with a compact is overkill for a lot of people, I'd say. 34-32 is a very low road gear. The Canyon website seems to say it's an 11-28 actually, though I do remember seeing that Canyon were speccing an 11-32… dunno.
New Ultegra is very nice, not sure it's worth an extra £300 on a training bike though. There have been a few places doing deals on the full groupset around the £450 mark already.
105 cassettes aren't expensive - http://www.wiggle.com/shimano-105-5700-10-speed-cassette/ - maybe a 12-27 would suit you?
