Glad to see it survived the paint can. Looks even better now than it did back then. How did you pry it from his grubby pink fingers, @user86310 ?

I've installed a few dozen fenders (mudguards, whatever) over the years and they are ALWAYS a pain in the ass. Fender jobs never go as planned. There are always so many annoying problems to solve, tight spots, crimping, filing, unbolting, fiddling, new tight spots, more filing, more crimping.
As pretty much everyone has said in this thread, not the fault of VO that they didn't work on your frame unfortunately. There are plenty of bike/fender combinations out there that mix like oil and water, and your bike was just one of them.
PhilDAS pretty much summed it up perfectly, and hard lols ensued:

So are we mostly talking about the Advanced Miche cranks with 144 BCD?
Just like @radiobomb73 I had one of the 135BCD Primatos for nearly 2 years on my daily and never had any issues. Have since upgraded and passed the crank along but I believe it's still going on strong.
Is this the crankset you're referring to @M_V

The Goldtec rings are decent and seem round to me. I've had one on a pair of 75s with a Supertoughness chain and was very happy with its performance. Definitely agree with @umop3pisdn that they feel overbuilt though. They have no hollowing out on the backside like fancier rings (Zen and Rotor) so they are surprisingly heavy.
However, one neat thing to mention is the ring is completely reversible so can be fully used twice. There is a logo etched on both front and back, and each face has machined chanring bolt seats so the bolts sit flush with the surface. There effectively is no "back" to the ring.

ooof I too saw that they'd restocked and decided to have a peek. Having a lot of trouble justifying their price considering I'm basically just interested based on their looks (obviously know the quality is there)
I currently have a Zen on one of my bikes, and I've ridden regular Sugino 75 rings, Dura-Ace, Omniums, and smaller company's rings like Goldtec and Blackspire. Totally can't tell the difference between any of them myself.
Love the looks of aarn rings, but can't justify the price point :(

i'm usually a fan of A.Danger's stuff, and am definitely jealous of her snagging that infamous Cannondale rat, but i kinda agree with alocalboy on this one.
that setup with the crazy unrealistic Sugino honeycomb bling gear ratio and tiny rack just screams "i ride this around the corner to the cafe" to me. the reason the original Cannondale rat was so iconic around here was because it was ridden into the ground by a dude who liked riding.
current iteration is missing the mark for me. kinda feels neutered and like sealed under glass for safekeeping now

How critical is it that I find out the type of alloy (6000, 7000 series, etc) for a decent weld job? I've tried contacting KHS but never got a response, and haven't had any success searching the internet either.
All I have to go on is the "Lite Concept - Aluminum Alloy" sticker pictured above. I know most KHS frames from this era were made with True Temper, did TT ever do an aluminum tubeset?

Hey y'all. Long story, but I basically ended up with this cracked frame for free. The crack is down at the BB shell, around about a third of the seat tube. I've always loved these old KHS frames, and I'm hoping to bring this one back to life.
Does anyone have some advice on repairing an old aluminum frame? I know how difficult it is to repair aluminum (finding the right filler material for the alloy, heat-treating, stresses at the heat-affected-zone, etc) but since I've got this frame for free, I'd love to repair it. Whether it's a proper repair, or a bit of a bodge is kinda up for debate.
So what does the LFGSS thinktank have to say? Any ideas what series alloy these old frames are made from?
i've always found photos of pretty bikes propped up by a bike stand a little meh, especially with the snow
did they drive those bikes to that location, unload them, stand them up, take photos, and then drive back to wherever they came from?
