Hi, apologies if it's been asked a million times before but which one's the best option at the end of the ride to work scheme, the extended hire agreement or taking ownership of the bike? I got a bike through the scheme a couple of years ago but never got any emails after the first year, so a bit surprised with the email from Evans yesterday regarding the second bike. Are there any risks with just extending the hire agreement? What happens if/when Evans goes bust?

Found a house, got offer accepted, had a survey done (the medium one), which indicated damp in various places. We knew we had to get a damp specialist contractor to check out the place but the lender was being really slow with processing mortgage application, so we didn't book the expensive damp survey until we got the mortgage offer. Finally had the damp survey done yesterday, the damage is worse than we expected and they estimated 17-20k to repair it as they have to put up scaffolding, take down parts of roof and wall, etc. We're going to make a lower offer to cover the renovation but I'm so scared the vendor will say no.
The damp is due to poor roofing and guttering, i.e. current owner's negligence in maintaining the property (they live abroad and the house has been rented for years), none of which was mentioned in the advert or by the estate agent.
Anyone been in a similar situation? We were thinking of offering 15k less than the offer we had accepted, is that ok or too high/low?

It's a Victorian terraced house that was extended in the 60s. The roof has old lead flashing and has been letting moisture in, the roof itself is not too bad apparently. The gutters are old too and not doing their job properly and the garden slabs have been put too high up, causing water to flow into wrong places (i.e. the base of the house).

Oh man, that sounds like a nightmare. I hope you get it all sorted soon and get to move in to your new place without further complications.
Has anyone asked for a reduction in price due to damp in the structures? I'm not from the UK and admittedly quite hysterical about damp. We're going to get contractors to check the damage and evaluate how much it would cost to fix. The husband and his family don't seem too concerned about it :D

We've applied for a mortgage as first time buyers from Clydesdale Bank through L&C and it seems to be taking a good while to get a mortgage offer. I know it says on their website it could take up to 40 days or something and it's only been two weeks since we sent the last documents they needed but I'm starting to get a bit antsy and it seems it's only taken friends a few days to a week to get a mortgage decision from other banks. Apart from my lavish spending habits on hobbies such as cycling, can't see why we wouldn't get one but am starting to panic a bit.

Some idiot in a black VW Golf (or Polo) driving behind me knocked me off my bike in Kentish Town yesterday and just sped off despite clearly seeing me dive onto the asphalt. Luckily I was riding slowly as I had just turned to Fortess Rd past the public toilet bar and didn't get badly hurt, just bruises and a broken watch. I was just leisurely riding along Kentish town high street on my way home after a long ride and don't think I had managed to piss anyone off on that stretch (don't have a habit of provoking anyone or getting provoked by bad drivers anyway). I didn't even see that car before it hit me! Also a bit surprised and disappointed in London people, a good few saw the whole thing and one person came to ask if I was ok. I've been riding a bike in London for a couple of years now and have seen loads of bad drivers, but this level of twattery never. Does this happen a lot here?

Not too snug at all. I've got the ladies L size and I'm 5'8, the top is definitely long enough to cover lower back when on the bike.
I keep finding good merino wool jumpers in charity shops in North London (Islington, Highgate, Crouch End, Muswell Hill) for a few quid each. Sometimes there's even cashmere jumpers! They may not be the most fashionable ones but they're great for cycling or hiking.

I got some Isobaa merino tops from SportPursuit (the 180 I think) and have been happy with them. https://www.sportpursuit.com/sales/isobaa

I had my Cannondale Synapse stolen in East Finchley on Saturday, 54cm frame, black&white 2015 model with Shimano dual pedals. I've reported it to the police and am bracing myself to fight with the insurance company, but thought I'd post here in case anyone sees any dodgy sales adverts for the same model on the internets.
Bicycle thieves should be dipped in toffee, rolled in popcorn and left for the seagulls on Brighton beach. Then thrown into the sea. Also, @Aches have you tried asking on Yksivaihde, the Finnish fixie/SS forum? http://www.yksivaihde.net/site/foorumi/

@hemmetti Your name sounds quite Finnish. Any connection to the land of ice and snow?
The Hillthwaite is great! Walking distance to both Bowness and Windermere, nice rooms, good breakfast, pool & sauna and very dog-friendly.
