A lot of places doing walk ins atm (at least in Manchester/Salford) usually for +40s all day or any age after the last appointment if they had drops during the day and not enough +40s walk ins (what happens regularly).
So, got the pfizer on sunday, and beside some medium to strong pain in the arm, all good.

Removing ground from something isn't advisable but doesn't mean something bad will definitely happen. Ground is there more as a safety measure. Removing ground to check if that is the source of an issue, if done carefully, can be hardly labelled as dangerous.
If by removing the ground the hum is gone, that solves the issue and kind of proves there was a ground loop. Btw when you break a ground loop everything is still grounded! -

Clearly the other stuff you trying to connect is creating a ground loop, when you connect to the laptop ground loop is lifted.
I had similar... when listening to radio or play acoustic guitar (all connected to same amp) perfect clean sound, as soon as I connect the turntable I would get massive hum sound - that was a very good indication the turntable was creating a ground loop. Turntable was creating a ground loop cause the amp was grounded and phono connector was 'carrying' that ground to turntable. Turntable used a 3 pin plug and was also grounding the phono stage to the plug internally. Solution just removed the internal ground connection from the turntable plug (to the phono stage) and now it's crystal clear sound.

Or a bit more reliable Shimano:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-ES25-ES300-UN26-Bottom-Bracket-BB-Octalink-Square-Taper-Sealed-Cartridge-/393288615765?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286Pretty sure you can find even cheaper second hand. Got a really cool carbon BB for 25£ second hand awhile ago

Not sure you are looking at some fancy, specific BB but decent shimano square BB can be found on eBay in many lengths for 10/20£. Another idea, maybe someone could start a thread just to change BBs?Guys adapting road bikes to ss are always looking for short bb.
Just to add... Those spacers someone mention before were designed to adapt a 73 mm BB to a 68mm frame and not to increase/decrease axle length.

If you already have any basic knowledge and you are ok around tools, you can learn anything on youtube, or you can look for bike hubs near you they usually have basic/intermediary bike mechanics classes for free or silly money, just dunno any in the London area and how are things since covid...
Plus this bike hubs usually let you use their tools to make your own repairs and they are usually high quality tools, at least here in the north :D

I'm not sure I get what the problem is... if you have a square bottom bracket, just get a new one! They come in all type of lengths! Some other types of bottom brackets also have different lengths but probably not as many as square!
If you have a 114mm, just get a 120mm! Bum! You got 3mm extra clearance...
