Ah, yes, good reason. I find other ways on alu seatpost though :) But I use tape for seat setback on the frame as well.

Nice looking bike. The rear clearance looks tight !
I've had this shimmy problem on a particular bike once : low trail geometry, which seems to favour it, when riding no hand. On my new low trail bike, I feel I could start the shimmy by forcing the bars left and right, though it has never occured naturally. It seems to be due to a particular combination of geometry and weight repartition. Maybe the canecreek viscoset would help, if it works with your headtube and fork.
