I commute a few days a week from Cambridge, can't stand the tube anymore and want to try this before I default to a Brompton.
I'm 5'9'', so a 54-56 frame would be best (but the ride is short, so I can take smaller/larger).
Here’s the clincher: it should look just shabby enough that no self-respecting thief with an angle grinder gives my D-lock a second glance.
Budget: £100, can stretch to £200 if it rides well and looks particularly bad.
Pick-up central lnd if at all possible, i promise not to be fussy.

@duncs - thank you, standard seatpost it is

@coventry_eagle - this looks great, but the price is too steep for me. It doesn't help that 2019 M1E goes for £840 online.

Looking for a Brompton, central London pick-up ideally. This looks great, but I don't need the extra gear for my short commute, and it's pricey for my budget.
I never had one before, so not sure about the sizing: I'm 5'9''.

I'm fitting an old wheel to a modern beater. The vintage rim has angled sidewalls with minimal wear. I intend to use it with a modern shimano caliper (R451). If I understand correctly, Sheldon says angled rim and rim brakes should be avoided - I feel he may be exaggerating, but I have never gone against his advice before, so I turn to you LFGSS. Is this going to work fine?

@Vince Thank you for this. I putting this on a bike that originally had a 7-speed Shimano hub so, if I understand correctly, I can't just stick in a wider 8-9-10 hub. What I'm actually trying to do is to use an Ultegra 10 speed cassette reduced to 9 speed on a 7-speed hub. Sheldon says that should work, I'm putting it to a test!
@user70163 I haven't thought about it much, was looking for some price discovery from the offers. Maybe £40 for something good, more like £20 for a beater?
@TheShipwright Thank you! I'd previously PMed with second dibs - will do again now saying you are happy to let me have it. It would be ideal - much appreciated!

If @MCamb can find them, I also have a pair spare - pick up from Gray's Inn road (WC1N).

I have two road bikes I would like to store somewhere securely, preferably somewhere between Holborn and Stoke Newington. By securely I mean safe from theft but also from the weather - we use them once every two weeks for a long weekend ride. So far, I have thought of:
- asking neighbours for some garage space - no luck, very few garages in WC1
- apply for bikehangar spaces here
- apply for two lockers here
The last two are not expensive - around £30/year, but I have no idea how good/safe/convenient they really are. Has anybody tried any of these solutions? Or maybe somebody has some space in their garage space they could rent out for a small fee?
