Hello All,
I'm looking at selling my fixie. This is mainly due to the fact that im saving up for a car (im only 17) and that i've hardly ridden it since building. It was great fun, however im more into my MTB. Road ridings not really for me :'(
Frame: 57cm Peugeot Carbolite 103 Road Frame, dating from 1982/3
Wheels: SingleSpeedComponants Workhorse 700c Flip Flop Wheelset. Pair of Michelin Dynamic Classic tan wall Tyres mounted with new Innertubes.
Drivetrain: Original Peugeot Crankset with a 52t Chainring. An 18t Fixed Cog and 17t Freewheel are mounted out back, which are driven by a wide 1/8 Chain. Brand new BB was also installed
Brakes: Original Weinmann Brake Levers connected to new Acor Brake Calipers.
Finishing Kit: Original Seatpost with a brown Charge Spoon. Handlebars come in the form of some original GB (Gary Burgess). A basic retro Stem and brown Deda Bar Tape finish the package. All the original parts are in great condition. Few marks as expected (the bike is over 30 years old!) Everything else was brought brand new in the summer of 2014. Doubt ive got more than 250 miles on it since building :( Really impressed with how it rides
Headset and BB both have loads of life left. Sealed bearings in the wheels are smooth as butter. Brake pads also have plenty of life left. Rear tyre is starting to wear. Please note, i will not be supplying the pedals pictured, however i have a set of cheapo plastic flats which i can include. I will also include the inner 46t Chainring and a shorter Stem.
Im looking for around £350 + Postage, however im open to offers and looking to sell quickly. Any questions please get in touch!

95% built now, only waiting on bar tape
So stoked on how the build turned out, riding fixed gear is addictive. The bike is so fast, it accelerates like nothing I've ever ridden before. I'm still learning how to ride fixed, and if i was to explain my first few rides, i'd say it was like learning to ride a bike all over again! Pedal straps are quite a pisstake getting in and out of but im slowly learning the technique...
I cant wait for the bike to be complete, i chose components which kept in line with the retro look, such as brown bar tape, saddle and whitewall tyres, aswell as getting low profile rims and keeping the original bars, seatpost, stem and cranks... The 52 tooth chainring, paired with the 18 tooth fixed and 17 tooth freewheel make climbing a bit of a challenge, however on the flat, this bike really does crank up some speed.
Cant wait to ride it this summer, got a few road rides planned for it, including a hilly 60 mile epic, which should be quite challenging fixed/single speed... Here's the pic from yesterday mornings quick ride, i will take a better one once the bike is finished!

Thats good to hear that it can be done, just put up a wanted ad regarding all the parts
I'm really into my Mountain Biking. Stripped and rebuilt my bike many a time. Know how that all goes together and works, but i have no experience in road bikes. Especially retro road bikes, where the sizing is different!
The bottom bracket is a Square Taper Shimano UN55 according to the owner... This is good as it means its a fairly universal size. The axel width is 113mm if i remember correctly. Would this be fine if i brought a set of SS cranks or would i have to get shorter?
I've just done an age check, and by going on the Headtube Badge and Top Tube decals, i've dated it to a 1982/3 model....
Thanks for the advice. I just want to get the bike rideable first, so wheels, chain, crankset, freewheel and sprocket will be needed. I will keep both brakes and the original bar tape until i get use to riding , then i will change the tape and remove the levers and either go brakeless or get a flat bar front brake...
Cheers man, i sure will, cant wait to get it built. 2 friends have just brought retro bikes too ( 1 an already converted fixie and the other a road bike which is going to be converted ) so it should be pretty sweet

Just putting out a wanted ad. The thing is i wont be able to buy for a couple of weeks due to not being payed, however i'd like to try and find something now. Need a few more parts to finish my bike.

Flip Flop HubCrankset:

Going to be my little summer project. Been off school for about a month now and dont go back till September, so im getting quite bored at home.
Its a Peugeot Road Frame, made of Carbolite 103 Tubing. Not sure of the exact model, or age, the seller said from the 80's. I payed £45 for it. Dont know much about the bike, nor do i about any of the sizing... Will give it a good measure up soon. Dropouts are 100mm front, 130mm rear and the bike rolls on 700c wheels
Need to get a few things till its rideable... A Wheelset, going to go for a Flip Flop hub :D Will need 2 sprockets, a chain, some pedals and tyres before its ride able.
Eventually, i want to get a new crankset, new saddle (brown Charge Spoon) and new bar tape (Deda Leather Look)... The brakes may go completely too and then i will put on a flat bar lever and front brake when i use the freewheel, but i havent decided on that yet. Will speak to my mate about it. Trying to do it with the tightest budget possible. Sub £180 would be nice.
The bike will only be used to get around on and go for chilled out rides along the seafront. May be tempted to take it on a few long distance ones once i'm finished building and built my fitness up. I think i will end up selling it at the end of summer to put the money towards driving, as i was meant to be saving up everything i earnt, but when a mate brought a fixie the other day, i kind of had to get one too

Thanks for that Xmilosx
I was speaking to a guy who runs a FG/SS online shop, and he said i could buy some axel spacers to space out a rear wheel to 130mm? Would this work ?
Any opinions on these? Look good for the price... Sealed bearings, can choose the hub width... Quite heavy tho:

Some of you may know im doing a cheapo FG/SS project Im collecting my frame tomorrow
I'm gunna go with some Deda Leather Look Bar Tape.... Just wondering, do i wrap the bars fully or just the drops. Ive been looking online and it seems to vary. Is there any logical reasoning behind this or is it simply down to personal preference ?
I will probably keep the bike brakeless to start and only use the fixed gear, then when going on a longer ride, put the brakes back on. This edges me towards only taping up the lower section of the drops...
Any help would be appreciated :D

Hello Guys, loving the forum. Sorry if I've annoyed anyone with my newbie posts. I found it hard to contribute my first 3 comments when I've got no idea what im doing. I'm big into my Mountain Biking and i am an avid user of the site MTBE and Pinkbike so if you're on there aswell , some of you may know me.
Basically, myself and a mate have decided to build up some FG/SS bikes. I've found myself a local frame set and i am picking it up on Sunday. Its a 1980's Peugeot Carbolite 103. Basic i know, but for £45, i jumped on the offer. It comes with pretty much everything, bar the wheels and sprockets.
Its got some basic detailing in the description and from what the seller has been telling me but im stuck with what to go for in the wheel department. I know it requires:
700c wheelsize
130mm rear dropout , 100mm front dropoutI'm struggling to find any budget wheels second hand or cheap new stuff. I want a flip flop hub so i can choose between Fixed Gear or Single Speed. If someone could point me in the right direction in terms of wheels, or they have something that would work, then please let me know.
I've got a good idea in my head of what i want the bike to look like... At first, i will probably leave the brakes on so i can switch between FG/SS. I'm going to try get it to look classic, with Brown Saddle, Bar Tape and vintage style white wall Tyres.
Yet to decide on gearing either. What do peeps reccomend for a first time rider. I'm big into my Mountain Biking and regard myself as fairly fit, running a 1x10 set up at the moment, with a 34 tooth chainring and 11-36 cassette. However, i've got no idea what would be a good combo on the project bike.
I will upload some pics as soon as i get the bike on Sunday, but if anyone can help me regarding my questions, then it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, im Jacq and im 16 !
Just joined up... Hoping to build up a FG/SS this summer as a little project. Its not going to be a big budget build, just want something to get me around and look rather nice...
Found a few frames locally. Will be asking for lots of help (hope you lot are alright with that)
I'm big into my Mountain Biking. Can rebuild that from the frame no problem, but these retro sizes have left my brain fuzzled.... Hopefully, within time, i'll be able to give back to the community...
Thanks
Thanks for the info guys.
I know its priced quite high. Especially to you guys who really know their stuff about fixed gear e.t.c Ive got it for sale locally and on Pinkbike so hopefully someone may be interested. Cant remember the exact amount i spent on it but i'd like to at least get all of that back!
I'll knock the price down to £250 + postage and see how it goes. Used market is great for buyers but crap for sellers! Had the same trouble with my MTB last year :(
