I've insured my cargo bike in my garage and they still want it locked. They couldn't care that it's an alarmed garage with CCTV outside. They didn't specify what type of lock (whereas they're more specific on my motorbike)
If you're sticking it outside consider something like a ground anchor, then it gives you something solid to secure it to

I don't see omniums in London very much. See lots of bullitts though
Cargo bikes definitely need mudguards, just so much more practical. Mine is kitted with mudguards and dynamo, and the pannier set up permanently loaded with straps and bags etc. I just get on and ride it. Will be electrifying it shortly though!

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean
There's a little guide here https://xtracycle.helpscoutdocs.com/article/13-kickbacks-whats-the-difference-between-the-three-models

That looks like it fits pretty well actually. The only bit I'd be worried about is the pressure from the lower half onto the tube, it's focussed on two points, although you have already protected it
You could probably fill the missing section of the bottom half of the clamp with something to spread the load if you wanted absolute certainty
The kickback 1 doesn't clamp to that bit, but when the stand is engaged the legs have a piece that meets the oval tube. But on the kickback 1 that piece is ovalised so meets it nicely (actually I think there was also a round tube option too)

I think it's intended so you can engage and release the stand while you're standing on it. I can definitely see uses for it, but not at that price.
Getting on and off and engaging my stand is fine, I can even release it when I'm standing over the bike. But I'm tall, might be more of a problem if you're short and getting on and off the bike is a bit more wobbly

Wow, that's really not very good at all. And a decent sample size too so not just anecdotal stuff
Sounds like the sort of bike to buy brand new from a shop that deals with them a lot then. I've had one on my dream wish list as I think they're great (on paper/internet), haven't ridden one
My Big Dummy is cheaper but I love the idea of the GSD. Just now not sure whether it would feel a bit small for my stuff/kids.
Is your shop based in London?

Nicely specced bike mate
I have all the bits you mention and I agree that they make the bike s much better everyday cargo bike. My kid carrying solution are u tube type side rails and a stoker bar. Take two easily, my third is to young to get on a bike yet. When she gets to around 9 months I'll try her on it

I have an SQR slim but it's only really used on my Brompton when I need more space than the front bag can provide
On my commuter bike I use a Topeak rack and a rackpack. I use the top section only when I'm riding and then fold out the panniers if I need to carry anything else, like shopping or my laptop.
Generally don't use a rucksack when commuting. Also have the Altura morph rucksack at work so I can stick the laptop in that and on the rack if I feel it needs more protection

I have an older Surly Big Dummy (with the curved top tube) so it was designed to fit all the xtracycle stuff. I was lucky to buy it secondhand with all the bits I needed on it, the only thing I've added is the front wheel stabiliser.
My u tubes were fabricated by really useful bikes, but everything else is xtracycle stuff. The pannier bags and U tubes are ace for carrying shopping, stuff or bagging and dragging another bike
It's running a hub gear which is great for being able to change gear when static. It's definitely more draggy than a derailleur set up though.
Ute's often come up on eBay, usually in 18in rather than 20in size. The only thing I heard about them is the 700c wheels put the load slightly higher up than on 26 or 20 inch bikes.
I like the idea of getting a hooptie but in practice it would make the bike much bigger to store. The U tubes, being low, don't take up as much space when trying to get past the bike in my garage, and I have a wide and curved stoker bar on it which both kids can hold onto when on the bike

I have the xtracycle kickback 1. It's an excellent stand but sadly no longer made
If you fit all only xtracycle stuff to a big dummy frame then I think it all works fine, but if the surly cargo kit is fitted the xtracycle stuff isn't guaranteed to fit
I heard the guys that designed the big dummy left when qbp bought it and the relationship broke down at that point. So it might work but xtracycle have their own bikes now so focus on that rather than looking at compatibility with other bikes

@pdlouche thanks for the stabiliser recommendation. Ordered that exact one on Friday, came today and fitted just now. Seems to be perfect for the job! and the cheapest one I've seen too
What is this trickery? I have a Big Dummy that I use for carting stuff and kids around. Front end on that looks useful
