Re lights, on my commuter I run a SP8 dynamo hub with the B+M IQ X headlight. It has a clever mounting ring that lets you mount the light sideways and even upside down. I hung it from my front rack that way. The light is great, I think. It's not as bright as a battery powered 700 lumen light I also have but it throws a really wide beam. The whole setup was reasonably affordable (once you get over the fact that running dynamo hub lighting is expensive).

If you're going to be using friction shifters, get whatever rear mech you can find that works with the cassette you want to use. Then get a narrow wide chainring that fits whatever crankset you want to use. Done.
For instance: get a new tiagra long cage mech (cheap), find a 9/10/11 speed cassette (check that it fits your hub if 11-speed). If you get the right mech you give yourself an upgrade path too, just by adding the matching shifters later on.
Getting a 'real' 1x SRAM setup will likely be more expensive, SRAM shifters don't depreciate in value much I have found.

Both, I suppose. The weight though... something like this sea to summit mat compresses down to the size of a water bottle and is still a lot more comfortable than many types of dirt: http://www.seatosummit.co.uk/products/sleeping-mats/ultralight-mat/.

Very nice. My sis has one of these set up with 1x11 shimano. Really nice bike, great handling even with a loaded Wald basket.
On my cheap ass Gazelle Cross Trophy I used some square-taper cranks from the parts bin with a narrow/wide chainring, that worked out really well and keeps costs down. That just leaves whatever kind of wheels you can find, a RD and some friction shifters.

I use spd rather than spd-sl for all the reasons you mention. When (micro)touring or just on a daytrip it is so nice to be able to walk around a little bit. Not to mention being able to confidently bring my bike up the stairs to my house without breaking all my bones.
Having said that, I don't suffer from the dreaded hot zones even after 4 hours or more. Some people don't like spd because you don't get much of a contact surface which can cause you to feel the spot where your foot soles are over the cleats.. Ymmv.

Would you be willing to lose the podium girls if it meant that a number of people feel more comfortable in our sport? It doesn't have to be a zero-sum game, and leaving the podium girls out of it is not meant to take away your identity as a male. It is meant to make the people who object to it feel more at home and respected.
A classic 'can't we all get along', I know, but I strongly believe the struggle is to include more people, not exclude one group as another is included.

Wether or not Leye herself explicitly condemns Sagan is not really of interest to the case, I would say. An argument like this often occurs when social practices are addressed by people demanding change; a member of the affected group claims it does no harm and is now supposed to have spoken for the entire group. Besides this, it also implies that only this affected group can be the final arbiter of the matter. This is not true.
While related via our concepts of sexuality, gender and the way gender is used to prescribe social practices, there is a difference between the matter of groping a female body and the display of female bodies as trophies. It is this last issue that the OP wants to address, I believe. This is not so much about spoiling the experience, but constitutes a demand to change a social practice that arises out of culturally constructed gender dynamics that we no longer want to see performed. The performance of these dynamics is what constitutes them and vice versa, this is the paradox of culture.
The argument arising from this is that by consciously removing a certain performance from the public space the perception of the relation that the practice depicts can also change. This would finally mean that the practice becomes meaningless. We don't now thank the Egyptian God Ra for a victory because we do not believe this to be significant. We might in the future just award someone a trophy and leave it at that.
Finally, you are right that this may not incite people to suddenly cheer on female professional cyclists. I can only say that this is (hopefully) not the aim of this campaign, as it would severely complicate a relatively straightforward request. Yes, @Van_Damage, a long game. As has been indicated, it can be rather stifling to examine every expression of inequality at once. Having one race change it's ceremony would be the most powerful statement at this point! :)

Nice! With the small amount of saddle-bar drop you have I think you could consider a Brooks B17. If you have to ride in the rain*/leave the bike outside sometimes then a Brooks Cambium could be nice.
Also, is the right B/E shifter upside down or do the microshift levers work the other way round? Its all the way up but the derailleur is in a high gear. With my DA levers this would be the lowest gear.

Imagine getting a new bike and finding out the old one was just fine... New wheels should do it. On a commuter I might just go DT 350 + DT R460 with DT Champion spokes and brass nipples. What am I saying, might. I did that and it works great. Front wheel has a SP dynamo hub though, which has also lived up to my expectations.
