Sigh, I rode professionally here in Europe and America up until the early 90s, things seem worse now. I think its a case of far more cars, more popularity with cycling now and less skills on both sides. I do say the countryside (and the A21 is not a lane, for sure!) is as dangerous, if not more, than London. Road conditions are worse here than Spain was in the early 80s (and thats saying a lot). Big condolences for this fellow. Lessons? Wear brightest clothes always, assume stupidity from every motoris, assume they can't see you, just assume its a combat zone out there; unless ya gotta ciclocross bike and land to ride on, just assume bad things could happen...sadly.
