I'm visiting a friend in Japan and he wants me to take his bike over, whats a good approach for single use/ one way bike transport?
I wont have much personal luggage so believe i can (Link to airline baggage policy take bike as part of checked baggage. any suggestions? (having never done this any advice would be appriciated)

A race bike is designed to be used for tens - hundreds of miles, this ride is thousands, its not about top speed but maintaining an average.

If i wanted to argue the merits of 3/32 vs 1/8 i would have gone on to one of the threads already made doing just that, I asked a specific question and all your posts are irrelevant.

just because you would only use a fixed for riding across town doesn't mean everyone does. I ride 100+ miles at a time on fixed, I can be stranded in middle of nowhere doing either. I know how to maintain a bike and check for wear and so would start to carry spare chain hundreds of miles before the old one broke. The sprocket being rohloff only is far more likely to be irreplaceable than a 1/8 chain which isn't overly uncommon.

@M_V How is that any different to when i ride fixed except ill have a lot less load on the chain. Also I always have 2 spare links in saddle bag.

yes but I wouldn't just put a 1/8 sprocket on the back and leave the rest 3/32

Not a member of Thorn forum, and there public search has no hits that are relevant.

Getting a Rohloff hub on my tourer, looking at possible ratios and found Rohloff don't stock 1/8 sprockets.
Wondering is the thread on the Rohloff the same standard as track sprocket threading?

I almost dislike cycling places where drivers are considerate and hold back for bikes, I feel im in the way or like they are about to just snap and floor it. when cars shoot past at least I know the douche is gone... That said I'm sure I could get used to it were it to happen here more

16 -18 hours a day for 2 weeks on racing bike... no thanks, just tweak the position (bar/saddle) on tourer so it a bit more aggressive and put slim tyres on, bike pack rather than pannier. 16 - 20 mph is easy to maintain

im tempted, have new tourer on the way, have registered just debating actually applying... and there is enough time to train, all be it the worst time of year to train.
