The Roubaix stage had only one DNF - Froome. And he crashed on tarmac roads. Today 4 people crashed out. The main effect on the race yesterday was from Nibali's brilliant ride and he has even less experience on the cobbles than Froome. Without the wrist injury there is no reason to think Froome would not have done as well as Porte, Valverde or Contador.
Except Froome needs fvckin' stabilisers

Needed some cheap panniers, so checked Tesco Direct click & collect site. Fifteen quid, looked good, so checked the two reviews. First review, 10/10. Great value, great quality, can't go wrong.
Second review, 0/10, came with the tabs stitched on wrong way around & in wrong places, so could only fit as bought some previously and knew panniers would have to be returned.
Mine wouldn't be like that surely............................really??...................F^ -
mkm531: Forgot to say, sorry to hear about your illness and good luck with the recovery.
Thanks for that Eddie.
I still think under 10's or 8's shouldn't be 'taught' to ride whilst knocking elbows. I feel this is something which should be borne of experience. Some (as riders get older); love the 'butt & bang' of a full out final sprint in a group, for others tho, it scares 'em to death. My own view is that it's a kind of natural cycling selection. You find what you're good at. In my experience, those who don't like the cut and thrust of the peleton make very good time trialists! (Beside the obvious exceptions to the rule!). -
I too have held a cat 1 licence. I have raced in 'international' races. I have trained & ridden with both world champions & grand tour riders. Due to my illness, I pootled around about 8 miles on my electric power bike; just for the unadulterated pleasure of being able to be two wheels, after I thought I never would again. But teaching under tens to 'knock elbows'!!? Give yer head a shake man.........

Yep, I have three entries printed out, all for the 100k route but I suspect my travelling companions (if any) will opt for the 55k again. I'd really like to persuade them that 100k is not too bad, particularly taken at a gentle pace and with an acceptance that there may be some sections that can be walked without shame.
When in possesion of a bike, there is nowhere that can be walked without shame.

Have to agree about cycling abroad. Particularly France. Mental drivers, but polite and considerate when overtaking a bike.
I've had some right run ins with brain dead twats here. The last one on new years day (when u think all will be calm and roads empty, especially on the IoW). 2012. After screamin abuse at me, 'cos basicaly I was cycling on a road, he swerves accross me. I stop, I shout at him & call him some names. He carries on up the road and pulls into a small dirt layby. I observe as he gets out of his car. A youngish lad about 20. As I get nearer to him I stop. He starts to walk/run towards me, I take off my shoes, much to his amusement and when he tried to grab me, I twatted him around the head with my shoe. The look cleat made a bit of a dent on his forehead. Moral of this is don't fuck with old men who ride bikes. We used to young and angry once. Now we are just old and feckin' mental. -

My mkm frame is from '74 I think. I bought it brand new in '75. Now using it as fixed. I have some 50's campag parts passed down from older club rider's when I was a young lad. Cable guides, shifters, some pedals. I also have a zeus rear mech somewhere that must be 50's or very early 1960's. Also, somewhere about, (my wife denies throwing away!); I have a blue cloth campag musette, which must be late 60's.

Hi Ian;
I'm on the IOW, but unfortunately, or fortunately! recovering from a cardiac arrest back in Oct. (Fabrice Muamba type thing, fit as, no symptoms, just bang..) I'm slowly doing bits on the turbo, but as soon as is good, will be looking for local fixed rides. I used to work in Pompey and used to race the buses down Queen St and get spat at by bus drivers! -

Hi all. My first post on the forum;
I'm glad everyone who took part seemed to really enjoy the Island. I've done the ride many times, both on fixed, (42 x18 due to knee replacement); and geared. Couldn't quite manage it this year due to a cardiac arrest in Oct & subsequent recovery. (That was a shock!). Hoping to ride it again next year.
If anyone sees an old, (now) fat bloke, riding around the Island on a purple (ish) fixed MKM, give us a wave...............
As this follows your earlier comment re a lobotomy, I guess this is aimed at me.
In a near 40 year racing career (now retired) I've had a fair few wins, and picked up a little experience along the way, but if this is how you like to be, I'll settle back into my armchair and the shut the fuck up in case I upset internet morons like you.
Bye............
