Bit late to the thread but I entered with a guaranteed place. I have a 2.30pm start time. Not done as many miles this year than in previous years (London Marathon kind of got in the way) but done a few 200+ rides and did 425km this weekend (301 Saturday and 124 Sunday both with 6amish starts). Kit is all sorted. It's gonna hurt lots I think but I'm OK with completing the event. I have a plan but expecting it to go to pot pretty quickly! Getting a little nervous with three weeks to go!!

Cyclist dies after apparently colliding with a car where Blowingstone Hill crosses the B4507 at a crossroads near Wantage, Oxfordshire. We were running the Blowingstone-White Horse audax from nearby Uffington and our riders had climbed the hill earlier in the day. We heard about the incident whilst we were waiting for their return. The Classic Oxfordshire ride by Bike Events was running yesterday as well and they descend Blowingstone Hill however I don't know if it was one of their riders involved or the circumstances that led to the collision. The hill is a nasty descent if you are unfamiliar with it, steep and often with loose material at the bottom (we had heavy thundery rain on Saturday). It crosses the B-road at a crossroads immediately at the bottom with no run-off.
Thoughts are with the rider's friends and family at this tragic time.

If you live in an area where there is such a high risk of earthquakes that those beds might be a good idea wouldn't it be better to build the housing to a standard that doesn't fall over at the merest hint of a tremor. Those beds wouldn't be much use if you were eating your tea watching telly when the building fell over, I guess then at least your cat might survive.
