For me, it depends on what I do. I got a Dakine backpack which is a bit bigger then my messenger bag. I use it when I go to the gym or have to carry more heavy things. For regular commuting however, I prefer my crumpler messenger bag. The reason for this is, is that it's not covering my armpits. When using a regular backpack the armpits are covered and less air can reach that spot during a ride. this results in a more sweaty shirt. I don't have that problem with a messenger which is why I prefer it.

Exactly why I want a messenger bag too, so I can choose between the rucksack and messenger bag depending on the task at hand... Glad there's someone on the same page as me.

Would you highly not recommend using brakes on a non CNC front wheel?

I too thought this but did research, it's fine but not as good in wet. It's a bit noisy until the brake wears through the lacquer and then it basically makes its own braking surface.
