Not to piss on your cornflakes, but I think you might have got a bit jumbled...
The North Park will begin to reopen from late 2013, providing a valuable area of open green space for the neighbouring communities of Hackney Wick and Leytonstone. It will be a place for jogging, kickabouts, children’s play and family picnics.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Boardman track bikes? Was thinking about getting the TK Comp as my first track ride, bringing it in via Wiggle.fr - http://www.wiggle.fr/velo-boardman-tk-comp/

Howdo,
Up in Scotland at the moment, and by complete chance, heard that the Velodrome had opened to the public last week. After a few phone calls and some incredibly helpful people at Glasgow Life, I booked some time this morning.
Turned up, and there was nobody else riding the session. I had an Olympic-standard velodrome entirely to myself for just over an hour, along with a brand new bike, and a brand new pair of rental shoes. Surreal. Blasted around, grinning like an idiot - not every day you get to boost round a facility like that with nobody getting in your way!
Had a great session, and I'd totally recommend getting up there if you can - accreditation carries over from Manchester and Newport (I believe), so if you've got your card there, then you're good to go. No session times are online yet, but just phone up and ask, they're a great, passionate bunch, especially Jake, who's head of cycling development.
Now utterly pissed off that London's not going to have a working indoor track until next year... I can see a lot of money going on train journeys...

I slept in, so just went along to basic again.
Glad I did actually... the coaches did something that they haven't done the few times I've been along before. They split the group into three (white, blue and ghost lines), with the bottom riding slowest, up to the top line, where the pace was pretty brisk.
Felt like a good way to get an idea of what it's like to ride in a group at a faster speed - feel a bit more confident about taking a crack at the intermediate session now, even if that is two hours long.

The bollocking (perhaps a slight exaggeration - stern, fair and well deserved lecture would be more accurate) last week was just that most people were getting carried away, and not thinking about the basics that we'd been taught (I'm including myself in this, before anyone says!). Lots of trying to go really fast, groups disintegrating during half lap changes etc, was just a bit of a shambles. People were still doing it this week, but it wasn't as bad.
It does feel like a lot of people in the basics group. I've done my three required sessions in it, and I'm planning on doing Monday night or Saturday morning to see if it's a bit quieter. Guess my main concern is that I'm still a bit too much of a rookie for both - how much of a leap is it?

My advice - get there EARLY - like 10am. Then you'll be able to watch some of the faster guys training, and you'll be sure of getting in on the induction, as it's been selling out really quickly since the Olympics.
I've only been going a few weeks, but it's bloody good fun. Can't wait for the weekend!

Coaches (rightly) gave everyone a bit of a wake up call at the end of the 1pm on Saturday, as it was all getting a bit messy... including one guy who didn't seem to speak English, which meant every time he got to the front on half lap changes, he just sat on the front and wouldn't move up, despite the five guys behind him telling him what to do.

Ah, awesome, didn't realise it was kicking off again so soon... Looking forward to getting back on the track. Wonder whether the enthusiasm from the Olympics will have cooled by now?
