'Potentially' causing damage suggests that it isn't actually doing any damage and hasn't done any damage, in which case, keep the tree. The mere fact that the roots might or might not go underneath the garage is irrelevant. Apple trees aren't particularly bad as far as subsidence is concerned. Nothing like a willow or oak, at any rate.

I've been reluctant to read it for two reasons. Firstly, because the Dune continuation books, written by Frank Herbert's son and A.N. Other, were total shite. Secondly because I was at school with Nick Harkaway, back when he was plain old Nick Cornwall, and I generally found him quite annoying. I guess I'll just have to get over the second reason. It didn't stop me from really enjoying China Miéville's The City & The City, when I had similar reservations.

Had a BMW GS on a side stand for four years unused. What are the basics to do before starting it up again? Cheers
I would:
- Charge the battery.
- Check the oil levels.
- Drain the existing fuel.
- Put in new fuel.
- Whip out the spark plus.
- Turn over the engine with the plugs out until you get oil pressure.
- Put the plugs back in if they look OK, or put in new ones if they're manky.
- Fire in the hold.
That's assuming its a wet sump engine, which I'm pretty sure it will be.
- Charge the battery.

Yes. I used to run a 9spd XT rear derailleur with an 11-34 XT cassette and Ultegra 6703 3x10 shifters (with an Ultegra 6703 30-39-53 triple chainset) and it worked a treat. Deeply unfashionable, with a triple chainset, but it gave an epic gear range.
Perfect for virtually guaranteeing being able to ride up Hardknott and Wrynose on the Fred Whitton, while still being able to hammer the descents and the flats.

I am talking about a hybrid invasion of the Kinmen islands
I've been to Kinmen. It'd be a tough place to take by force, with very little benefit and some potentially huge downsides. https://mondediplo.com/2023/03/06taiwan covers it well.

Chairs of select committees can't be shadow ministers, by convention. Add to that the number of Tory MPs who've said they don't want a front bench position (like Sunak and Hunt) and there's not many of the 121 left. As a result, Badenoch doesn't have that many options. Not that I'm overflowing with sympathy for her plight.

Eagle F1 Asymmetrics are my favourite, even though I've got Pirellis on the RS6.
