Assymmetric front and rear will build the strongest wheels. The assymmetry will help compensate for the dish on the rear wheel caused by the cassette and by the disk mount on the front wheel. Not necessary, but all other things being equal you might as well.

I would:

1. Charge the battery.
   
2. Check the oil levels.
   
3. Drain the existing fuel.
   
4. Put in new fuel.
   
5. Whip out the spark plus.
   
6. Turn over the engine with the plugs out until you get oil pressure.
   
7. Put the plugs back in if they look OK, or put in new ones if they're manky.
   
8. Fire in the hold.
   
   

That's assuming its a wet sump engine, which I'm pretty sure it will be.

Yes. I used to run a 9spd XT rear derailleur with an 11-34 XT cassette and Ultegra 6703 3x10 shifters (with an Ultegra 6703 30-39-53 triple chainset) and it worked a treat. Deeply unfashionable, with a triple chainset, but it gave an epic gear range.
