yes to the first part...
NO to the 2nd part. you'll ruin a good woman. fix it, tell her shit happens, and not to get so upset next time.I think you should sand it really thoroughly, then danish oil. About 5 treatments.
And tell your beloved you love her, you'll make it better, buy a bunch of flowers, and a meal out.

I may have found something that suits:
I'd really appreciate some advice.
seller says:
Seat Tube (ctt): 24in (61cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.5in (57cm)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 700C/sprints with brake drop of 55mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
This Woodrup frame was almost certainly designed as a multi-use frame – club riding, club time trials, light touring etc. Its in excellent condition and dates I think from about 1980. An ideal frame for use on Sportives and randonneurs.http://www.hilarystone.com/images/sale%20images/frames/Woodrup-road-4193.jpg

I would like to build an everyday commuter which is still very sleek looking out of an old steel frame.
im a bit on the heavy side, 6 ft 2 and 185 lbs. ive got a 531c which looks great but i think this tubing is a little on the thin side for everyday so i would like recommendations for vintage frames which look nice and have a bit sturdier tubes.
has to have relaxed comfortable geo
has to be lugged
has to be 531 st or butted tubing or equivalent.
must not have pantos on.
should not have too many braze ons as i want to ride single speed for this one.
must have pretty wrap around seat stays
i have been looking at some touring frames like dalesman and such but i dont like centre pull brakes and theres too bits i would have to remove.
any suggestions which old make/model would suit what im looking for?
thanks -
