I bought a pair of nutted Tektro brakes for an old 27" frame. At some point a previous owner had drilled out just the fork for a recessed brake.
A neat,cheap and easy solution was using a Schrader / Presta adaptor designed to go in a rim.
An aluminium one was about a pound from SJS cycles (+ postage, but I was buying other stuff).

I stripped the Hard Anodizing off a dark grey quill stem that I wanted to be a better match to an old frame ....
I used the Caustic Soda technique that was well described here :

34x14 gives 2 ratios on the S2 hub of 64" and 87" intended for keeping up with a chaingang on nice road bikes at work around the lanes.
I can (used to be able to) get up most hills on 64" and I can pedal at 30mph in a group (if I have to) on 87".
