Just jump in and try the 12. I did my first 2 last year. The first of which was my first open TT ever! I managed 201 miles with 90 mins off the bike with saddle soreness. Went back a few months later and rode the national champs and managed an extra 30 miles with a new saddle and only 9 mins off the bike for loo and refueling at the car (I was riding unsupported). Great events

Hippy have you ridden the R100/1 before? I only did the R100/8 last year and by the looks of the results for each, this course is a good 15-20 minutes slower?
I've been studying http://app.strava.com/rides/11232364#

Muppet here has entered the Cardiff Half marathon in October. I'm no runner. I think I did 10 runs last year between 5 and 9K. I've done about 4 so far this year. Need to get more frequency in my runs as I was doing about 1 a week at first due to the aches in my legs afterwards, but recovery is improving now. 2 weeks without running so I got out at lunch today for a 4 mile run/walk session. http://app.strava.com/runs/11210896

I've got a pair of Shimano shoes which have had the SPD mounting area worn away by cleats which have loosened or dug into the plastic and worn the plastic away so now it is almost impossible to get the cleat to position correctly without it twisting and sitting in one of the newly formed grooves in the sole. Is there a way to avoid this? Should I be using a washer of some sort between cleat and shoe sole?

Canon 30D body no longer of use to me and need funds to support bike habit. Also included in the sale is a remote release cable with lock for bulb exposures. Digital display intervalometer for time lapse control. 2GB sandisk extreme Compact Flash plus a 1GB card I think too. Original packaging for body will be provided. Battery charger and at least 2 batteries included in sale. I bought about 4 over time so will include more if I find them too. Asking £210 posted

You know I didn't even look to se if these were friction or not. Let me take a closer look and I'll report back.
Had a dig around in the bits boxes and found another stem and a crappy old steel drop bar which I've flopped and chopped. Ride around the block seems comfortable. I'll try them on the hills on Monday. I wonder how much I'll miss the drops on those windy mornings.

Sorry I forgot to respond about the shifters. They're 6 speed and I think you were after 8 speed? The bars don't have any grooves for cabling either. I might keep the bars while I work out what works best for me.
The seatpost came with the bike. I don't think it's marked with a brand or model and It's been cut by previous owner, but luckily I don't need much post showing due to being a short arse in the inside leg.

Yeh fair enough. I installed the SPDs this morning and rode my usual rolling commute. Cautious at first but soon got the feel for it. Only tried to freewheel once. Smiling by the time I got to work.
I would say that those Criterium bars are not great for climbing though. I work up a 10% hill and whilst the 42x16 gearing was fine (i'd not want any steeper hills though) purchase on the tops was poor. Shame, as I'm not that fond on the look of bull bars but I think they may be the best solution here. I've got some crap bars I can chop and flip to try anyway.
Massve congrats on the 24 podium hippy! Huge respect
