Does anyone have a sure-fire way of dealing with creaking BB? I know, I know, but damn. I love my CAAD12, it's so close to being all the (road) bike I'll ever need but I can't live with the BB creaking and cracking like the bike is about to split in half.
I have good ceramic bearings in there now, installed by (good?) mechanics on my lbs, which was quiet for the first 500km but now it's a mess. I don't think I can run sleeves because the hydro cable runs through the BB shell, so what can I do? Is the solution to buy BB tools to service it regularly at home? Is there a solution?
@e54 any tips? Can't imagine you riding those beautiful bikes accompanied by the sound of a medieval ratchet.

Had the privilege of @Marcootsee showing me around the hills in Turin last weekend, went back for a second bite today. Glorious morning, impossibly blue skies, no wind, shaded climbs, so nice.

I respect this is a new business and wish the builder all the success, but the whole bike is the definition of anti for me. Aside from the stem and stacker combo, there's like at least 3 different themes going on there. The red accents, the white accents, the clouds and feather stuff, colours that (to my eye) don't blend well, cute quote, all applied to expensive components but making them look cheap. On a retro build. Plus that bottle cage.
I know it's a show bike but the thing looks like a decorated truck, just missing some horn ok please at the back. Anyway, personal taste, hope they sell it, make more bikes, be happy.

As someone who's not entirely up to speed with race strategy, I thought this was super odd. It's as if they went nah, can't be bothered. Or worse, like chasing was beneath them or something. It didn't look like they were dropped, it looked like they slowed down to play cat and mouse when there was a race to be won right in front of them.

might also be worth keeping an eye on updates from the Marmotte, largely same route and same date as you

Skimming through the posts about political compass tests and all, reminded me of a online questionnaire to help voters on the water elections in the Netherlands. It's the only elections I could vote in when I moved here, so I took a look to see which of the 427 parties aligned most with my views.
The thing is, the questionnaire was hard. I only remember a few bits of it, but it had stuff like:
- there are loads of water rats. Nothing wrong with them per se, but it costs us a bit to manage our infrastructure because they do eat through stuff. Would you rather let them be and pay up (yes, it's nature, let's go) or use some resources to control the population and have extra funds for other stuff (yes I guess that could be ok too, dunno?)
- do you think all waters should be swimmable? Like, yeah, sure. I mean, all of them? Erm, dunno. If not all, should it be closer to urban centres (yay, clean water for people) or remote (yay, clean water for animals)
- in times of scarcity, should water access be prioritised for human consumption (of course), food production (of course), or animals (oh, of course)
What was interesting is the way that each question had consequences to it, implied or explicit. Like, to do X will require Y, so pretty soon you get the sense that uh oh I'm not sure ALL of it can be done, so what is actually important to me, and what do I need to be comfortable with my choices? Framing choice from a pov of scarcity was useful, particularly when each question had an explanation of how each party positioned themselves in that issue, and why.
It seemed so adult. Of course political discourse seems to be going to shit here like everywhere else because humans suck, but anyway, just thought I'd share.

Not sure if I'm aware of all the issues, but I sure know one that's irritating me quite a bit. I have a dual-sided one that drops off significantly a few mins into a ride (and no, it ain't the legs). Let's say I'm riding along at 200w, 10mins later it goes down to like 110w for the same effort. My best guess is that one of the pedals just stops transmitting, I pedalled single leg to test it and output drops to zero on one of them. If I stop the ride and calibrate the pedals, either through wahoo app or Garmin, it goes back to normal for a few mins again. Then it drops. Did this 4 times on my last ride until I just switched them off as it was pissing me off. Batteries were full, and no choice anywhere to update firmware. So I don't have a clue on how to solve it.
My hope now is to replace the malfunctioning one with a regular speedplay and have single-sided reading, I don't care about the double sided and only bought them because I found them reasonably priced second hand, fuck me if I'd ever want to pay full price. Your experience may vary, of course.
Nate Silver comes with a lot of caveats, but this might be useful
