I'm not sure 'a little crash' would loosen your cranks Jack.
I would have a good investigate to make sure something hasn't bent.WJPrince is right.
A crash would not unscrew a crank bolt. You might have stripped a thread or something else along these lines.
You should go down to your LBS and have them take the crank off to check for damage. Anything found now could well be cheaply repairable, ride around on it and you'll just compound the damage and could end up needing a new crank-set.
An LBS won't charge much more than a fiver to have a look - ask them first for a price. -

If it's a modern recessed allen bolt you could use something like a 'Boa grabit' bolt remover. I've used this before to great effect - just make sure you get the right size. The only downer is that a set costs about £20. If I were you I would go to a good LBS and pay them £5-£10 to take it out.
I always think it is important to support the local grease-monkey. -

Ergo: different.
I suppose what I was trying to say is that GT85 and WD40 are designed to do the same job and it is just the odd chemical variation and their packaging that separates them.
You could add Plusgas to this list, this is what Moulton recommends for separating seized suspension units on their first gen bikes. -
Cruising along a side road near Whitechapel this morning and a lady pulled out from a road on the right straight across my path without a single glance in my direction. I bellowed a big "oi" to get her attention... no response, still coming, me hard on the brakes... right up nice and snug to her passenger window still in clips, leaning on her car to stay upright in a side on skid, still bellowing very angrily indeed with some naughty and unmentionable language. She finally clocked me, shat herself, waved at me which led to my adrenaline unleashing a bit more annoyance. I rode off slowly, shaking, she pulled over behind me and had a big cry!
I have to admit I felt bad that she was so upset and wanted to go back to explain that without a horn all I have is my indignation to alert her to nearly hospitalising me, but I figured she'd think I was coming to have another go at her, so I just made a puffy cheeked "you nearly took me out" type face at her and went to work. Man I was shaking though.
But this is always the problem. What is a small, momentary, meaningless lapse in concentration for a motorist is always a possible lengthy, painful period of 'down-time' for the cyclist. Sometimes I talk calmly to the motorist to settle nerves and sometimes everything ends amicably, but, more times than not I've just ended up being on the receiving end of more threats of violence- - invariably men in German cars.

How about GT85 + WD40 for chain lubrication - do 2 wrongs make a right....?
hands on head, ready for retribution
GT85 and WD40 are the same thing except one has PTFE added. They are only designed to loosen and free up corroded parts but not provide any meaningful lubrication.
Why don't you pick up Amey's litre of motor oil, but a cheap oil gun from a hardware store and give it a go. -

I've been emailing him over the past 5 weeks and left a message on his mobile.
I did originally cut him some slack because I thought he might be on a foreign bike hunting trip or something but have noticed that he is merrily posting up new bits for sale on his website so he obviously has internet access and is around.
So sadly, It looks like Hilary Stone is trying to give me the shaft, and hence the need for his address. -
Shouldn't be a problem to fix this.
What you'll need to do is go to a specialist company that can laser weld - so that it doesn't weaken the surrounding metal by interfering with the heat treating. A friend of mine is sending his Pace RC200 frame with a cracked headtube to these people:http://www.carrswelding.co.uk/cycling.html
They mostly weld alloyed steels so your bike shouldn't pose a problem. It's worth giving them a call to discuss.

I've had my Brommie for a year now. Don't use it much. Once or twice a month. Not that many miles.
Front hub made a funny noise on a 6 mile ride recently (no noise before). I stripped it the following day and replaced bearings. Turns out the hub is pitted (from use) and therefore new bearings aren't going to help much. WTF? Its hardly used? I'm not the biggest fan of loose ball bearing hubs but they're not usually this bad. Absolutely shite durability.
I'm hoping this is a one off or a Friday afternoon hub build. I probably should have checked it sooner but it felt fine.
So I'm stuck with a dilema:
New hub and rebuild? Or will I just run into the same problem?
Or Superlight front hub (might require new spokes). Are superlights any good? Cartridge bearing?Any other hub options? Can't find much apart from the Dynamo options. Shim Capero have a front hub but its only 20 hole (I think). Don't fancy that suspension hub either. Looks like a solution to a problem I don't really have.
What I really want is for Hope to make a 74mm hub! This looks nice but probably a bit too expensive. http://www.calhouncycle.com/shopcast/?p=43#comments
Crap, what's wrong with me:
I've just seen a Moulton in a local bike shop with a seriously narrow Hope Pro front hub. The guy in the shop reckoned it was about 70mm but couldn't measure it to be sure as it was hanging off the ceiling. It was branded up as a 'Hope/AM', so you'd probably have to go direct to Moulton for one.
Now, that makes more sense.

Hey Tim,
I've never had any trouble with Hilary till just over a month ago. I've bought 4 frames and a tonne of bits off him over the last couple of years and everything has been fine. But for some reason he won't come through with a refund, which he agreed to in writing, so I have a bad feeling a trip to a small claims court is on the way which is why I need the address. Unfortunately I threw away the last bit of packaging that has his little address stickers on the back

Nothing? Might have to get a Brompton superlight. Are they cartridge bearing? I can't use the same spokes can I? Even if I use longer nipples?

By the way, I always recommend an LBS in these situations because if the person is asking what an allen key is they probably wouldn't be able to spot deformed threads or what to do with them.
It's always good to support the local shop.
