hi all, im selling my Somec to fund another project, its been recently rebuilt, by myself. it is an old road frame rather than a proper track one, but it still works ok for it.
spec is:
Somec 56cm frame (unsure of model) columbus slx tubing circa 1980-1985
cinelli 1a stem and giro d'italia bars with cinelli cork tape
shimano 600 aero seatpost and velo saddle
shimano 600 bb and 105 cranks
wheels were ordered from varno on here, weinmann 40mm rims on novatec hubs, with black spokes, radial pattern of front and 2 cross on rear. fitted with vittoria zafiro pro tyres
pedals are not included!!
its a super nice bike to ride, really comfortable, and very responsive. i havnt used it very much, maybe covered 100 miles on it.
there is a small bit of cosmetic damage to the paint on the drive side chainstay when the chain popped off but i will have this professionally repaired before the bike is soldprice is £450 ono which i think is fair
best to call or text for more info as i dont get on the site much now
located in hertfordshire, just off junc 8 on the m1107912251600
Cheers

Read this.
very interesting, thanks
For someone who have a modern carbon LOOK with all the bell and whistle, I was surrprised to see you quoting my favourite magazine...
(p.s. Macca, if you're receiving too much road vibration, lower your tyre pressure).
will do mate, cheers for the advice
-
Oh so that's not the original?
Just what pressure you're riding the tyres up?
no the original has the somec logo stamped into the top of the crown like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/lazzarello/308058719/lightbox/
tyre pressures are about 100psi, though they should be min 120 as theyre 23c
-
Macca, leave the fork alone.
why? its not the original fork, its a cheap tange one that sends shocks up my arms everytime i go over a bump. even some good quality steel forks would be better than these. id just heard that carbon ones help absorb the shock more, seems theyre hard to come by with a threaded steerer though.

finished mine a little while ago and posted a pic, got some hate on here for doing a conversion but its my bike, i can do what i like with it. anyway now ive got used to being brake less I've have put the other front wheel on, how it looks:
clearances are very tight!
I'm looking for a new pair of forks though, something that will bring the front wheel in a bit, and a bit straighter, preferably carbon if anyone knows someone selling or has some? cheers

Due to there being no trains I'm probably going to have to drop out of this now :(

Isn't this why the flip-flop hub was invented? I'm running a 49t chainring with a 20t cog (66") on one side and a 18t on the other (73.5") then a set of track wheels with a 15t cog (88.2").
For the winter I've leave it with 66", I find it perfectly useable outside of central London: an average of around 95 rpm gives a speed of 30 kph, which I very rarely average above on a normal ride.
ok, being the noob that I am, I dont understand this gear index malarky, how do you arrive at 66" or 73.5" etc from the ratios of cog and sprocket? i quickly searched sheldon brown site on gear index but that just told me how fast i'll go at a certain rpm
prepares for onslaught of abuse

What size is your rear sprocket? 38 on the front and 16 on the rear is quite a nice gear, you can get a 16t sprocket for aorund a fiver.
18 on the rear, have got a 16t free wheel for the other side of the hub, think i may try the 38 and see the difference, its quite hard to get going, but once your moving its great, and can keep a nice speed up

A brief Ebay search says lots
edit: these are mint however I don't do enough ebay dealing to really know how much yours is worth, but they are lust for many people
:O bloody hell, they werent there last time i looked! mines really poor in comparison to them, got a couple of dents on it, and any original chrome is past it. shame really, but never mind, should still ride well when its done

Nice somec, what collor will it get. Too bad the old one is gone, Somec paintjobs are lust!
just simple white i think, unfortunately its not in fantastic condition, i got it for free of a mates dad, and he'd ruined the original paint repainting it yellow
invest in a nice classic campag groupset and a popper wild somec paintjob you wont regret it
if you want to pay for it then i will, lol. this is just a cheap run around till i find a track frame i want then ill either build it up as a roadie or sell it, as i already have another gear'd bike, and old peugeot perthus pro

with thanks to jogger, finally found a silver post, so I'm close to happy. i want to get rid of these wheels and replace them with something with a box section rim and preferably (but unlikely) a set of hope ti glides. i decided put spuds for winter instead of look keos. pretty happy with it, not too sure about the saddle, its fine unless I'm not wearing padded shorts then its a bit uncomfortable over 5 miles, but that will be last most likely, wheels are now on the agenda.
can you tell me what model this is, i recently got a somec as a fixie project but dont know what model it is but looks similar to yours, heres some pics of mine for reference.
cheers
will consider splitting as wheels and tyres as one lot, and frame forks and everything else as another
