I would suggest obtaining a big spike, bigger than 22.2 in diameter [round in shape, obviously] - like a wine bottle cap or sth and gently tapping it in with a hammer.
pics would help, of both stem and the steerer.Yeh i see what your saying I was thinking this myself i might give it a go. just need to find an appropriate spike.
and
Yeh the bolt is loose I have even taken it off and it still doesnt go in -
So finally got my fixed conversion done just had to get the stem in....
IT DOESNT FIT in the steerer any more Arrrrrrhhhh.
But it is the same fork and stem that came with the bike and it fitted fine before. The conclusion i have come to is that somehow whilst wrestling with the headset i have somehow tapered the end of the steer tube in slightly and it looks like this is what has happened. The only decent LBS that wouldn't turn their nose up at my old pug is closed until the 3rd of jan
So how do i sort it???
Thanks (for bothering to read this)

sounds like thread on fork is damaged. Either needs to be re-died (like re-tapping but the other way round) or new forks.
This is what i suspect
And no paint on them they seemed to get paint everywhere else though had to have the bottom bracket re-tapped etc but forks seem fine
and yeh it is a steel headset so it seems possible that it is a steerer issue
thanks for info anyway

So was putting my headset back together after a respray...
threading the locknut on to the fork(with a big spanner) and it threads on most of the way but then it wont tighten any further it just keeps spinning but doesn't actually get any tighter. Have I screwed the fork/Locknut?
Gonna take it to the LBS tomorrow just looking 4 advice here though first :D -

Anyone else had a problem with these guys?
Placed an order for an item. Didn't come for 3 weeks, Sent them an email asking why. Said it was my fault and claimed it clearly said in the description the item was not in stock and there would be a wait and also that they had sent me an email telling me this.
None of this was true and eventually managed to prove they were lying as Google had cached their website from when i ordered. No proper apology. Bastards
Angry customer :D
