Not sure why the press have reported a woman in her late 30s. I'm 32 and male. I was riding to work on Tuesday morning, through the crappy bit of CS7 at Clapham South left hand lane blocked by some open topped bus checked behind to make sure it was clear and pulled out to over take. Next thing I can remember was seeing the underneath of the bus and wondering what the hell was going on. A passing doctor (I know this because she phoned my wife to let her know what was going on) and a bloke who I think was a cyclist talked at me. Apparently I asked someone to ring my wife (understandable) and work to let them know I'd be late in (I never knew I gave that much of a crap about work). And then it all goes fuzzy again. Have brief images of an ambulance ride with the HEMS guys and ambulance crew and speed bumps and arriving at Kings but nothing concrete until about 11:00am - think I'd had a CT scan and an xray by then and they'd decided I wasn't likely to die anytime soon.
Somehow I've managed to avoid breaking any bones just severe bruising and some lovely road rash. Frankly I think I'm the luckiest cyclist around if I can manage all that without either killing myself or breaking myself into little bits. The bruising hurts but could have been far far worse.
Haven't seen my bike since - no idea what condition it wound up in or where the hell it is - suspect its a very very broken bike now. Think the Police have it but not sure as they are being incredibly unhelpful. Have most of the rest of my kit (missing a glove bizarrely) and the helmet appears to have saved me from some pretty horrific head injuries (looks like paint transfer from the bus on the front).
Jackal, could you pass my contact details onto your friend (eldotheminty at btinternet dotty com) as I'm not allowed to send PMs on this forum as a new user. Still have no clear picture of what happened from the police and would like an eyewitness to let me know what the hell happened.
Massive thanks to London Ambulance staff, Air Ambulance guys and the passersby who stopped to help me.
