There is a user registered on Retrobike forum called lm1065, if you would go on to his posts,
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&author_id=21674&start=70
you would see that stuff he says about HIMSELF is mostly something like: '' I agree pete matthews has a great reputation''
I was a bit shocked actually, how a grown man could act like this.
How daft you have to be ? (facepalm)Also i was told by senior riders that he states himself as best wheel builder in the WORLD(yeah sure) and bunch of other jokes about him.
I believe this is not a case of split personality but pure narcissism.
Chances are it's his son posting - pretty sure he looks after his twitter account / web site etc, but yup, it doesn't look good either way...
He does lace together a decent wheel and like you, I hear he isn't too modest about it :) That said, I also hear he's a font of knowledge and always up for a conversation.

Been wondering, how's a Witcomb frame a Walvale?
This might help: http://merseysidebicycles.blogspot.co.uk/2010/11/bill-whitcomb.html
Lovely frame.

no front rack mounts, though... and pick up only from manchester, but maybe someone on here can help with that.
99.9% sure I've seen this in the flesh - it was for sale at a cycle jumble in Manchester on Saturday.
Nice frame, was tempted by it myself. However, another trader at the jumble bought it whilst I dithered...

Thanks guys - my two local LBS seem to have everything but TA's in their tool kits... In proper LBS fashion, one of them has one somewhere, but can't find it! :)
Skully - good call. Pete Mathews is still around building wheels and doing refurbs. I'll give him a shout.
Good luck Vince, looks a decent set.

The CTC forum has recently been stung the same way, a couple of times... Nice gear, decent prices, friendly replies then a disappearing act as soon as the money has landed.
They now have an 'AdWatch' moderator aimed specifically at new members who join seemingly to sell stuff.
