Agreed on the prices front. I was looking at a pal's from last year a few weeks ago and the download price was £24.99. So either it came down a lot with time... or it's gone up a lot.
The problem this year seems to be that there aren't a lot of pics (one of mine appears to be a tall bearded bloke and I'm none of those) and it's pricey. I'm guessing they'd get more take up (and therefore a similar amount of turnover for what are now fixed costs) if they had made the bundle £20 or £25

Someone did here
(found a link on BR) -
ouch on that Trek.
I was in RP with a later-starting group so not speed merchants and the only slow/down stop we had was where there had been an accident where they'd brought an ambulance alongside so there was a tailback to get past it on a relatively narrow road. People were slowing on the hills but only saw people walking at Newlands and one at Wimbledon.
Surely they shouldn't just be track skills... I've always used look, signal, manoeuvre when commuting too - but yes, came in handy today.
Overall it was a good day though. The rain was so bad that it was funny so long as you didn't puncture - cycling through that tunnel in Kingston with water at about a foot deep was an experience. The people who came out to support did a brilliant job considering the weather.
My only down-side was the signposting to the start. I was in a big group coming out of the Blackwall tunnel (which was kinda fun in itself) but we were sent the wrong way by a marshall and ended up getting to a dead end which was a little stressful after it took us 20 minutes to get back on track with wave close-times approaching. Then, the colours did seem to be a little haphazard at points with quite a few people looking lost trying to find their start.
Coming up the Mall was fun though... with people banging the hoardings and felt quite special. The kit transfer did work well.... and I do like my medal.
Nappy rash ointment seconded on the tender spots, jazzythumper. I treated myself to the assos chamois cream when I registered and have to say that it's brilliant. I have no sore spots... at least at the moment.

RIP rider. I can't believe another death in such a short time.
The press report it as the 11th death this year and compare it to the 14 in 2012. We are not in retail trying to beat last year's numbers. The target should be 0 and anything above that is a tragedy for someone's family and friends.
So sorry for everyone who cared about this man... my thoughts are with you.

A friend phoned me from the place on Thursday afternoon, & I went to leave flowers (one of the grimmest experiences of my life) at the weekend. I'm not sure if the flower place is where she was hit, or maybe has been moved?,
Sorry to vent slightly – hope y'all understand it's from the heart. Ride safely.
Hi Shiniqa - totally understand the venting.
I went to lay flowers on Wednesday night and was surprised by the lack of anything to mark the spot or witness signs. There were no other flowers there and I debated where to leave them. I was looking at the Standard's website to try to determine where the photo was taken when I met their reporter who pointed out where it happened. I left my flowers between those two gates - it did look like the picture when I looked closely - so I hope I haven't inadvertently put them in the wrong place. I found laying flowers there very emotional and I'm a stranger. I hate to think how horrible it must have been for you and Chiara's other friends and family.
Please let us know if you do decide to do anything - as another local commuter who has had a few close shaves with HGVs along the South Circular, I'd like to help/join in. It really was so close to home that I had a distinct sense of 'there but for the grace of god go I' .
{hug} Thoughts are most definitely with you.

Just been down to Thurlow Park Road to lay some flowers. There was nothing to show where the accident happened but I met a Standard reporter who pointed out where it had happened so I could leave the flowers. He mentioned that she'd been cycling down Gallery Road and had just turned onto Thurlow Park Road. And that she was apparently local to the area - condolences to those who knew her.
RIP rider...

Oddono's in South Kensington does good icecream too - not as good as Gelupo but still tasty.
And there's Lab G in Brixton Market
Greedy Goat (goat's milk gelato) are often at Borough or KERB/Eat St on occasion.
The other lovely London icecream is the Ice Cream Union but I think they only sell in packaged tubs rather than having a shop sadly.
I love icecream...

Question for those of you with long hair - I need a new helmet and I'd like one where it's easy to pull a pony tail through the back in the summer to keep the hair off my neck. And I'd rather have black or red than anything pastel or with flowers on it which seems to rule out the women's specific ones? So many of the ones online don't make it easy to see the back of them so you can't get an idea of how easy it is to pull the hair through once all the fitting dials are there.

RIP rider. My thoughts are with your family, friends and colleagues.
This has struck close to home as a woman who commutes through Victoria. I received quite a few messages today to check it wasn't me and it made me realise the impact on those who have been left behind to deal with the aftermath.
I spent a portion of this morning in a room at work which overlooks the scene. My meeting really didn't have my full attention as the sight of the blue tent drew my thoughts. Just so so sad that we've lost another to a left-turning truck...

I wore my Lakes in the rain yesterday and can report dry feet and dry socks when I arrived in the office. I don't like the 'feel' of the Sealskinz socks. I've got a nice pair of thick merinos for the winter.
Cyclesurgery (at Victoria at least) had a pile of Lakes left (slightly different model to mine) today. I was seriously tempted to pick up another pair since I think they've stopped making them. They're £54.50 IIRC

I found the most gorgeous bike for me the other week.
I hired a Specialized Ruby Elite in San Francisco and she was just so perfect for me. Full carbon and light but with enough oomph to get up the hills. Her saddle was comfy, her drops were comfy and her brakes just 'fit'. We did 40 miles together up and down hills, over the Golden Gate and round the Marin Headlands - which admittedly included me 'singing' "Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby" on some downward stretches - and I'dve had kept going aside from the fact that the next loops I wanted to do meant I wouldn't get the bike back to the store in time.
Unfortunately, the 2012 model is £2000... ouch!

I did have some overshoes before I found the Lakes - and yes, they worked. But it was such a faff putting them on and taking them off so that I could get to the shoe fasteners. With the boots, I can just quickly pull them on/off and if there's a sudden downpour on the way home (like Tuesday), my feet are still dry.
Btw if you're not sure on sizing and there's a Cyclesurgery near you, they're quite good about getting things in for you to try on or look at without committing to buying.

I got a pair of the Lake 140s. Cyclesurgery have got them on their website reduced to £55. Admittedly, they're not the prettiest boots but they are wind/water proof. I got caught in the rain in them yesterday and my feet stayed dry. They haven't been severely tested in the cold yet - just that little snap we had last week - but with a thin pair of merino socks underneath, my feet were warm - and there's room to get a thicker pair of socks in them.
-
Wicksie - I got some Icebreaker longsleeved merino baselayers for half price last week from tauntonleisure.com. They had 260 merino base layers for about £35 - and some 200 for £26. Also got a little reversible merino beanie for £9 that will fit under a helmet.
Admittedly it's not cycle specific and it's fine merino rather than uber-thick stuff but I wore my 200 one all week and was toasty. They are long enough on me not to ride up - I'm 5'3 and it comes down to cover the bum.
