I will be using some bmx pedals
Why these clunky things? They're wide. And even cancel out your advantage with a short crank.
This is my CSB with BMX pedals: A friend built his conversion with 170 mm cranks + BMX pedals. A strike would happen at about leaning somewhere at 30°. If not less. At least I got him for going with shorter cranks, but I still don't get this craze using these fat platform pedals.
The BB drop on a Steamroller is closer to a road frame rather than a track frame. Or just mount bigger tyres. Helps a lot too.

'smaller, flatter' pedals? Short cranks, awareness, etc.
I have managed some strikes. But it isn't really a problem as you are going to be doing some really tight leaning should that happen.
How about pointing your foot down (cages seam to be the safest option for this), and let the cage strike the ground first? Handy warning and it may produce some nice sparks. :-)

Surely the whole point of a beater is to not have to have loads of locks?
Funny enough, I lock my beater with the biggest and heaviest lock I have.
My better bike for all round long commuting has the lighter lock - 'cause I can't be arsed carrying that damn heavy thing all day.#I'mdoingitwrong

That's like when people say; "Oh, I don't believe in Halal meats...". Just, why?
It's just wrong...A weekend with three pals on bikes in a city we all never have been before.
Pal 1: Look here, iPhone tells we have to go this way... er, no, this... here, there. Fuck now we're lost.
Other pals have no better suggestions to sort out situation. After much debate and laughter, 'cause I pulled out old fashioned map + paper + pen, a route was drawn and then we did manage to make our way back with no fuss.
Point is, I do know we have nifty maps incorporated into phone devices and gadgets that want to help, but it just still can't beat it when one can quickly draw a sketch and memorize fix points you want to pass. I'm used to doing it that way.

Was deliberately knocked off...
I know that road. For me it is the fastest road I could run on a road bike in Glasgow. Simply for its descent and set of lights (all green except one red!) begging for a sprint...
Too glad my evil days are over, and traffic on that road is always too dodgy to get on with.
Better try avoiding that one in the future and do get your hip checked. -
In my previous life where I'd work as an electrician, I'd always have a Swiss army knife with me - handy for preparing meals. That was its only use. As I don't do that job any more and don't hang around on building sites too, I've got no need and lost it too. :(
But I'm still surprised how many would carry a knife with them.Apart from that; as I hate it to carry things in a pocket, I have various shoulder bags with the following items, that vary according to what I need for the day;
- keys - the only item that is automatically checked before door is shut.
- wallet
- phone, which I always forget
- pencil case
- notebook (an actual note book)
- map, usually basic and compact - I don't believe in fancy digital maps
- depending on bike I'm going to use, there might be tools thrown in
- water bottle, always!
- on a lazy day where I take the train instead, a book or at least something to read..
- smoke stuff
- litter, because my bag always gets messy and is seldom emptied properly
- maybe clothes - I always have a picture about the weather for the next 24 hours in my head
- keys - the only item that is automatically checked before door is shut.

Now I'm confused too.. I always thought it was measured from c-c.
I've got a 59 cm frame. It still seams to be very long and had to go for a stupid short stem (60 mm) to reach the drops without over stretching my arms.
I once had a 61 cm Raleigh with an 80 mm something stem and it was okay grabbing the drops there.
The difference doesn't look that big, but I would have never had a chance setting up a 62 cm Steamroller with a reasonable stem and drops.I think the most helpful advice would be to take the frame size of what you think suits you best and find out in a shop with available frames whether it will work out or not. You'll probably end up going for a smaller size.

Subscriped.
And here my own contribution. But can't tell where it could be, tbh:
