Got crashed into by a car on the A24 (Balham High Road) just at the junction with Alderbrook Road (I think, I dunno I was pretty out of it at the time so it might have been Oldfield Road) at around 07:30. I was going north on the A24 up a nice clear CS7 (early enough there isn't a shedload of other cyclists). Lots of stationary motor traffic going the same way as me and as I was just going past the junction with the side road, there was a van in the traffic queue to my right who apparently waved a car going te other way who wanted to turn right, to go across in front of him into the side road. That car turned right across my line and into me. I didn't see it because the van was in the way until the front of the car hit my front wheel/fork.
Not sure what happened exactly, but I woke up on the road on the other side of the car, no idea where my bike went. I'm pretty sure my bike and I went over the bonnet of the car which rings true as I remember landing on the back of my head and on the other side of the car. Upshot was no broken bones, helmet and bike trashed. Lots of witnesses and the driver didn't drive off but in my wobbly/shocked/injured state I just didn't get the driver or any witness details. Witnesses were great and really nice/helpful but well-meaning and didn't make sure Police came or that details were taken.
Anyone here see it or the aftermath? There is CCTV along that road, but as the Police didn't attend and weren't interested when I went to report the accident, I don't hold out much hope there.

Yep it's been into a shop. They've said forks and wheels definitely need replacing, handlebars and headset not yet assessed, but the frame... they're not giving me a concrete answer on just yet. First impressions are it's a bit out, but not hugely. It's an aluminium frame so a bit more forgiving. If it were carbon I'd have no doubt it's scrap right now.

Bah, image didn't come through from Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/totkat/5586429894/

I was hit by a car, side on - front forks (carbon - photo below, nothing spectacular really) and wheel trashed, back wheel a bit bent, handlebars may be OK, headset may be OK. The frame... this is where I'm not sure - it -is- it tiny bit out of true, only a couple of mm though. The workshop says it might have always been like that from the factory, but I'm a total wuss and scared there's hidden damage. This thing gets me to work and back every day and does training rides for races.
Any opinions? I'd prefer to err on the side of caution, but would like a second, third, nth opinion... anyone?

Was just looking through the Rider Down forum and hoped this one was me, but no... nearish to where my accident was and same day but I was in the morning. EXACT same sort of accident; driver turning right into a side road across my path and I went across the bonnet.
No photos, no details, driver did stop, bruised, grazed, neck and shoulder pain, trashed front fork and wheel, bent enough back wheel to replace it. Frame -might- be OK and handlebars -might- be OK.

Just lodged a case with Leigh, Day & Co. thanks to British Triathlon. Really nice guys; MUCH more helpful, friendly and sympathetic than the Police so far (who said not to bother reporting the accident as I didn't think to get the drivers details WHILE I WAS INJURED AND IN SHOCK! cough). Hope to get something out of this 'cause my bike is a bit of a mess and it's gonna cost.

Hi,
New to the forum; advised to join here after I got knocked off my bike this morning near Balham and someone mentioned someone in here may have seen... Pretty sore right now, bit of whiplash, banged up knees and calves, trashed lid, trashed front forks and front wheel, back wheel might be fixable, jury's out on the frame until the workshop has had a good look at it. The car that hit me didn't get off too lightly either.

prancer: absolutely right - that thread (http://www.lfgss.com/thread4213.html) should be mandatory reading for anyone cycling on the roads.
I am kicking myself I refused the ambulance in more ways than one. :o(
