All this talk of French ferry adventures has tipped me over the edge. I've just booked an overnight ferry to St Malo, from where I'm going south to my mate's place in the Vendée then up to the Loire and along it as far as Blois. I've done Amboise to Orléans before and it was wind-in-your-face drudgery, so I'll train it to Paris, then out to Gisors or maybe Gournay-en-Bray and take the Voie Vert back to Dieppe.

I did a nice leisurely mini-tour a couple of years ago that involved Dover-Calais, cycling down the Calais to St Omer canal, up to Cassel then over to Ypres in Belgium via the Mont de Cats, then back to Bergues and Dunkirk, where I got the ferry back to Dover. Only took four nights/five days, but you could easily extend it as @MTB-Idle says above and take in some Flemish bergs to the east of Ypres. The bonus here is that area of France is incredibly quiet as most tourists drive through it on the motorway and never bother with it, so the roads (in my experience) were practically deserted. Plus they sell decent beer in Nord-Pas de Calais and Belgium, so there's that.

England clawing it back in the final session after a decidedly mediocre start. Woakes is bowling about as quickly as Sam Curran does, which is a concern. Did Bashir deserve any of his four wickets? Maybe the one that got Matt Henry? The rest were from absolute dross deliveries. Still bowls way too straight, for me.

Cracking boozer, that.
